Tank temp

For my new 75 build im thinking about running the temp around 81-83f? Was reading that most reefs in the wild are around that temp. Im worried thou i would get a crazy out break of algae. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't set my temp to run at 81 or 83 if it rises to 81 or 83 that prolly won't kill anything but if you set it that high and it rises to 85 or higher your gonna stress things if not kill things.

I keep mine at 79. Low 80s is ok too, but it's important to maintain a consistent temp. New tank? Nice. What kind of lights are planning to run? MHs?

If you haven't bought the lights/chiller yet, you might want to consider LED lighting instead.

Depending on how it's set up, you might not need a chiller if you're using T5s. You could try a fan instead, and save the $$. Hoping someone a similar setup can chime in...

Chiller is from old build and I got it cheap. Only reason im hooking it back up but i dont think it will really run that often.

Overall tank metabolism may be a bit high, and many of the snails common to our hobby are likely to have shorter lives with a temp in the mid 80s, but all other things being equal you shouldnt have algae issues simply from the higher temp. I run my tank in the high 70s.
