Tank? temp?

I am researching sh, I am having a hard time finding the water temp. I have room next to my tank for a 24"x24"x29"tall tank for the sh. I would like to use the same sump as the main tank. The water temp would be 80-81. Can you give a recommendation on the type of sh would work for the water temp and tank?
Thank you

Hi Steven.
The temp you are talking about is too warm for any species of seahorse.

If you can tell us what species you want to keep, we can tell you what temp is needed.

Tropical species 69F - 74F

Temperate species 65F or below.

Most people keep the tropicals in the 72 - 74 range if they are concious of controlling the temp, lower is fine as well though IME.

Many people keep temperates in the low 70's also, but I really think that lower temps are important especially for species like Caps who tend to have bacterial issues with there tails. The lower temps will help to slow the bacteria growth.

Please keep in mind that seahorse tanks are pretty dirty. The water from the horse tank might foul the water from your current display. Better to run seperate systems IMHO.

Personally, I've found 76-80 to be ideal for tropical species. 80 is too high, and while some do okay, that's getting into the area where they're more prone to bacterial infections. I have, however, heard of one keeper that kept barbs at 80 degrees without incident; but have no direct experience myself.
