Tank Tour 07' DSM Area

I'm approved for grilling at my place - so after ryansholl's we'll head to my place and send a contingent to the store to get stuff to grill.

Brad - you and sarah better come cause you still haven't seen my place.

I miss living in Sherman Hill...wasn't the best apartment but the building had tons of character...plus Sherman Hill Catering was still open and his diner down on like 17th and Woodland had the best Philly Cheese STeak in the city!

Ok, updated and of course still up for discussion:

11:30 - meet somewhere to pool to Boone
by 2:30 - zltful - elkhart
cagri - Urbandale
me - sherman hill
philby - sherman hill - food

Is this still the plan? I am an hour north of Des Moines, so I should expect people about 12:30? Yes?

No one spoke up about changing it, and considering it's getting down to the line I think we should stick with it.

How many are planning on going up to Joel's? I have a blazer that sucks gas but would work to haul 4, if someone has a car that gets better mileage we'd be better off that way, and I for one would be happy to buy in on gas. We could meet and park somewhere near sherman hill if that works for everyone.

Otherwise, could zltful and Joel post up directions to their places for everyone that wants to join in?

I am in Elkhart. If you hit Joel's place first, he can show you where I am.
The address is 219 East Elm Street.
My home number is 515-367-3037
I am not positive if I will be tagging along as I still have alot on my plate to finish up this weekend still...but we will see when folks show up. I can just close up the house and go...

Directions depend on if you are taking 35 or 17. Whomever is driving I can email a map. Ryan should I just email the map to you? Can you print it?

I've spent enough summers finding farmers in BFE that if you give me an address, I'll get people there on time.

Everyone pooling from the Des Moines area meet at 820 17th St tomorrow. At 11:30 I take off. Just take Cottage Grove east from MLK (just south of MLK & 235) and 17th south and look for the number. Only apartment on the block.

Hopefully I'll check this early tomorrow, but it's 5:36 right now and I'm still not tired, so no promises. If anyone would like to get hold of me, as I assume things are getting arranged through me at least for the inital part of the day, my number is 6414850817.

I'm bringing chicken and hard liquor, Philby. Prepare the girlfriend ;)

I have to work in the morning, but I would like to join the tour once it get's to Cagri's. When you guys are 30 minutes from Cagri's can someone give me a call and let me know?

Ryan - i'll call you when I find out if my GF needs the car cause if she doesn't I can drive (Civic - so not as comfortable for fitting many people, but better gas mileage).

Brad - we'll call you shortly after we leave zltful's.

and don't worry ryansholl, my GF likes chicken and alcohol...

I just got back from the tank tour and I thought I would give a recap for those who missed out.

I didn't get to see Joel's tank or Ryan's (ZLTFUL's) tank.

I started the tour at Cagri's house. His tank was incredible. It was so grown in that he can't even get in the tank. Corals were growing on the back wall, the side walls, and completely covering his Loc Line. Things were even growing out of the water. Cagri also fed his giant anenomes for us. We took a look at the location for his future (ealry next year) tank. He has the stand built and tile layed where the stand sits. After seeing his current setup, I can assure you that his new build will be one to watch.

After Cagri's we went to Ryansholls. He has a 120 setup. Ryan's tank had the best aquascaping I have seen in person. The natural formations were sick! I didn't have a camera with me, but Ryan said he would take some pics and post them. My favorite thing in Ryan's tank was his pair of bright blue Crocea clams. He said he got quite a deal on them. (Hey Ryan what was the name of that place you ordered them from?)

After Ryan's we went to Philby's. Phil doesn't currently have a tank setup, so we mostly gawked at his awesome place. We also took the time to come up with a nice way to hide the plumbing behind his tank. After that, we went to Dahls for grilling supplies. Dahls was a blast. We saw a dude with no shirt. We saw what may have been a middle aged prostitute, and then we watched the checkout girl (who was no more than 16) hit on Phil. Phil declined (this point is actually not decided, because it all depends on whether Phil shows up to Dahls tomorrow and purchases cheese (or possibly beer) for the checker) and then we went back to Phil's to grill. We ate, we bs'd, and then we left.

That was my tank tour. I think everyone had a good time. I have a feeling that next springs tank tour will be a great one. I will get to see Joel's and Zltful's tanks. Phil will have his tank running, Cagri will have his new setup, Ryansholl will have a new setup(he's moving), my tank will be running, and JJ should be on the tour. Hope to see you there.

Was great the meet the couple of you that I hadn't already, and good to see everyone else again. Landlord never did show up to move that fridge, so I could have come to Phil's after all!

Will post a picture for you tomorrow, brad. The one clam that I bought online was from fragglereef, $19 non-WYSIWYG but I haven't heard a soul complain.

I owe cagri [something] for driving next time I see him!

Thanks everyone for allowing us to invade your homes for an hour or so and gawk at your tanks!

It just re-inforced my desire to get my tank up and going! (tank delivered Oct 14 - should be wet a couple weeks after)

Even though I don't have a tank and not everyone was able to make it - I was glad I was able to host for BBQ - thanks Cagri and Brad/Sarah for stopping by - sorry neither of the Ryan's or Joel could join us...

Ryan - please do post a pic of your aquascaping - it is amazing and I need something to emulate when I get around to doing mine ;)

Alright guys off to Dahl's with my string cheese to pick up some jailbait!

Nice looking tanks guys. Cagri- your tank is in desperate need for an upgrade! Let me know when you want to stop by and check mine out since your new one will be the same size. Sucks I missed it. Next year i'm in for sure!

Thank you all guys, it is always great seeing other's tanks, gave me so many new ideas. Everyone had beatiful tanks.

JJ, I will contact you soon to have an indept examination of your owesome system. Brad, Joel and Ryan gave me some great ideas on how to make holes in my ceeling and floor, so I am looking forward to your ideas. kidding aside, I need serious help on how to make my new system clean, and you guys have been helpful, thank you!

Let me know if anyone needs Xenia, or purple montipora, macroalgea, etc...I got plenty and they are free to whoever needs it. Just call me and we can figure out a time.

Well, the battery is dead on my camera so that'll have to wait another day.

as an aside, my new skimmer is going. It's ridiculous. I'm going to spend the next couple days trying to quiet the induction noise :) Pictures to come.
