Tank Transfer and back to DT question?

Okay, so the display tank will be fallow for 72 days on Tuesday 9/23. The only disease that has been observed is ich. I have done the tank transfer method on all the fish. I am a little nervous about placing the fish back into the DT without knowing the ich is gone from the fish. How long after the TTM should I wait to see that no signs of ich on the fish and their behavior is good and that I did the TTM correct to start reintroducing them to their home? Thanks in advance!

How long did you do the tank transfer method for? Typically, I would say follow with a quarantine for 30 days in a cycled healthy tank for observation if it were a new fish. I am not sure I would recommend anything different in this case.

I did the typical 12 day, 72 hour transfer to a new tank program.

as long as the fish are all comfortable in your qt, i would just continue to observe them for another 4 weeks. you've gone through this much so there's no sense in taking a chance even though if ttm is done right, there is very little chance for ich to survive. i'd still feel better watching them for a while longer.

If the DT had ich I would play it safe and wait 6 weeks. You still have a chance of ich surviving a 4 week fallow period.

He had a 10 week fallow period. Tank should be fine. You could do another 12 day transfer cycle to make yourself feel better if that is what you are after. Did you ensure you bleached everything in the transfer tanks and allowed them to dry completely? Did not contaminate the tanks with any equipment that may have cysts on it? If you made perfectly sure that no cysts or parasites were allowed to follow the fish to the next transfer tank you should be good.

Did you do any freshwater dips or prazi treatments? Couldn't hurt to do these treatments over the next ten days and then return them to the DT.

If you executed TT correctly you don't need to do anything else but transfer them back to your DT (no cross contamination, completely dried equipment between transfers, etc.). There is a lot of margin for error with TT if you do it correctly IMO.

i've done ttm with my last 3 additions. i always do an observation period of 3-4 weeks just to be on the safe side. it seems like a small price to pay for as close to 100% as you can get. i can't even imagine having a preventable ich outbreak in a dt.
