I'm hoping snorvich will chime in.

Is it normal for the ich to return? The ich returning is of little severity this time around. Its not even half as bad. I just finished my second transfer. I'm doing it every 3 days. In the past when I've done this the fish I picked up have never shown signs of ich in the first place, or while doing tank transfer. This time it appears its decreasing. But still there. I have 3 more transfers to go if I'm doing th every three days

I bought a small tang that looked great in stores. I put him in QT and ich popped out within hours.

just finished my last transfer this morning. I do not see any signs of ich or scratching anymore. He was COVERED in white spots before.. head to tail.. even during the transfers, I would still see white spots and scratching behavior.

I believe ttm is a daily process, not every 3 days. The purpose of ttm is to let the ich fall off everyday and prevent the fish to reinfect by changing the full tank of water. doing it every 3 days will let to fish reinfect everyday.

That part of the Life cycle is 3-5 days. Everyday would be crazy. 2 days is good, 3 days is fine as long as its done within the 72 hour period.

The Trophont stage (when they are feeding on the fish) last about 3-7 days according to the sticky. It is possible then for ich to be present on the fish after the second transfer but should be completely clear by the time you finish the whole process. I have run about 25 fish through tank transfer and never had ich show when all was said and done.

Tank Transfer to prevent/cure marine ich
The theory behind the tank transfer method of treating Cryptocaryon irritans is to move a fish from one tank to another when the parasites fall off the fish. The parasite fall of the fish during the night, so moving the animals first thing in the morning is preferred. The parasites that fall off will not find a host and so cannot complete the life cycle.

The treatment requires transferring the fish every 3 days to a clean tank for a total of 4 transfers. The parasites that leave the fish are left in the empty tank. Once exposed to marine ich, the tank and all materials and equipment need to be dried thoroughly before reuse to insure all the parasites die. I believe that the tank will dry overnight if toweled dry.

The process is fairly easy to perform with small tanks and limited equipment. Ammonia becomes less of an issue given only a 3 day stay. I recommend the usage of ammonia detoxifier anyway, just in case. Since the originating tank is a QT tank, simply drain it, clean it, and reestablish it for the next tank transfer. The filter floss used as a seeded biological filter is discarded as is all water. Any PVC or transfer equipment (nets, etc) should be sterilized. Tank transfer does cause stress for the fish but it is in some ways better than copper and just as effective as either copper or hyposalinity. I personally advocate a transfer done without nets.

While it can be done more frequently than 3 days, as long as the cycle is less than 72 hours, and total of all cycles is 12 days, you will be fine.

So . . .

3x3x3x3 or 2x2x2x2x2x2 or 1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1 are all equivalent in efficacy.

Ok so I,ve done this last time with GREAT success. This time I've done one tank transfer SO FAR and there is a major reduction in ich. It went from COVERED (rolled in salt) to none... To 4 spots

Ok so I'm doing another transfer tomorrow this will be the second transfer and my purple tang is still showing ich.... Soooo I'm going to transfer him tomorrow and he'll still have spots

Old thread but thought I'd ask how you turned out. I am starting the TTM today with my purple and Kole tangs. Did it work for you!
