I currently have a 75g with a 40g sump and about 75-80 lbs of live rock, 2" of live sand, some soft corals, 4 fish and CUC. I may be purchasing a 220 this weekend. Of course the tank location in the house will be the same i.e. I have to breakdown and move the 75 prior to setting up the 220. I plan to use garbage cans (new) to hold all the water from the 75g ultimately transferring the live rock and water to the 220. I will then use ro/di saltwater from LFS (my normal supply source) to fill the 220 and sump verifying salinity. My question is will the livestock be okay? I do not believe I will experience a tank cycle. Ultimately I view this as a large water change. I do plan to add rock (live or dead to be determined) later and will appropriately season before adding to the tank. I am under the impression that if my current live rock/sand amount is providing sufficient filtration in the 75g it should work in the 220 with the same amount of livestock. Is this an accurate assumption?
