So the tank has been up and running for 3 weeks now.
I started out with absolutely 0 saltwater knowledge, and thanks to the great people at this forum I've managed to setup my own nano reef.
I know it's not much yet, but keeping all the parameters steady, and everyhting alive is enough to get me excited.
So I had the tank upf or a week, I used Cured Live Rock and Live Sand.
Afer 1 week I decided to put together a cleanup crew. It consisted of...
1 Turbo Snail
3 nassarius
3 ceriths
5 Hermit Crabs
They've been working amazingly together to clean the algae off the liverock.
The Crabs aren't too picky with their shells, I noticed only 1 of them is a big fashion Shrimp, he HAS to have a new shell everyday. But luckily he goes back and forth between the same 2 shells.
The others are completely stock so I think the snails will be fine.
I also threw in about 15 shells my mom brought back from mexico so that if the crabs get picky they have somehting to choose from.
So another week went by and I didn't be much besides the daily topoffs and weekly water change.
Now the third week has come and I decided I would purchase myself a coral for the tank.
After some careful picking and choosing I went with a Zoanthids. I absolutely love the colors on these guys.
I bought it and put it in my tank today, hopefully it will grow quickly, but im a patient man so as long as the crabs don't get to them I'll be fine.
I'll wait a week or 2 and see how it does, if it grows and looks healthy I'll consider purchasing something else.
Questions and comments are welcome, meanwhile here are some pics. Oh and the tank is a 5 gallon btw.
And here's a bonus of the guy who lives just above my mini reef.
