Tank upgrade and reusing rock

MBC2012

life gets better daily
We are final planning stages of our upgrade - 75gal to a Elose 160XL (220ish gal). We would like to reuse our live rock but don't want to bring over the bubble or aiptasia. Should we boil the rock or acid dip it? Any other suggestions?

I agree but make sure after you bleach it and acid dip it you have to soak it in RoD I for a while to make sure all that stuff has been removed

I would soak it with prime and change the water test it and soak in clean rodi after and test again. I would leave the rock in the sun for a month or two also, I hate pests!!

I am not familiar with Prime. Can you explain?

Is it safe enough to just leave the rock out in the weather, for a couple of months? For those who don't wish to use any acids/bleaches, or any chemicals at all?

Cheers, Paul.

You can, but you are in winter right now.

I would maybe wait until summer to really bleach them out. Plus the critters wont take them from you.

Actually the bleach and the acids wash of real quick. We are not talking using sulfuric acid at full strength or anything. Just enough to convert/kill the top layer.

There are others that go au'natural. Phostphates are a killer. I decided to do it that way... well my GHA will be gone one day. :)

Welcome... My brother in law is from just outside Sydney.

Cheers mate, I'm undecided on which way I'll go with the rock at this point, thanks heaps for the advice though! Geez, I haven't been up to old Sydney town in a looong time, I really want to go up and check out the Aquarium, the Melbourne aquarium is pretty good.

Cheers, Paul.
