I did some research and am thinking ahead. We have put an offer in on a house so it looks like if we get it I am going to upgrade tank. I had ask about skimmers and after reading and researching I think i have decided on a ASM G-3 skimmer.I was wondering I see some post where people have modified them wondering if I would have to do some mods to make it work the best. Thanks Scott

Yeah! Tank upgrade. How exciting!

I have the G-3 and I love it. There are some modifications you can do to make it work better such as the gate valve mod and the recirculation mod.

Mine has not been modified at all. The G3 has a larger pump, the Sedra 5000. I can't believe how much gross stuff I get from it. I get about a cup a day.

I have been happy with mine without the mods...I wouldn't mind the gate valve for the ease of adjustment. I've just never got around to it.

What size tank are you thinking of going with? The ASM G3 is rated 180-250G. It is an awesome skimmer. I love it.

There is a huge thread called the ASM Skimmer Club in the Lighting, Filtration and Equipment Forum. Lots of good info there.

Good Luck on the offer!

right now it looks like I am going with the oceanic 140 gal with dual overflows. Unless space allows for bigger lol.I already bought the light set for a 48'' tank but I could always return them and go with he 72'' if I find I have room for tha long of a tank. The lights are dual 175 watt m/h with power compacts built in and moon lights. Thanks Scott

When I upgraded from a 90 to 180 I was happy that I went to a 6 foot tank. I thought about going for the biggest 4 foot tank I could find but I am sooo glad I went with the 6 foot tank. Now I am icthing to get a 8 foot tank. With my new house I have the room. I think that you would be much happier going with a 6 foot tank if the money and the room allows for it. Just my opinion

I am not worried about the cost. it is just going to be what I have for room without making the ank looked jambed into a spot.I want to have room around it and not take up most of the room.I am hoping it will go into computer room and the desk we have is a pretty big desk. (I know the wife is not getting rid of that lol) it is a large oak roll top desk and does take a good amount of room. Thanks scott
