Tank upsizing size thoughts

I'm hoping to move in the winter to a house and will be able to finally, really have a tank larger than a nano. Now footprint and things like that are still unknown but should I try to go as big as I can or do something in between to learn the nuisances of sumps and things first?

Ideally, I would love a monster system like 8'x2'x2' display with a fish room, but maybe a 90 cube to 200 would be wiser to cut my teeth on?

Go big now. You will only regret it later if you go small and really want a bigger tank. You will likely have to replace most of your equipment if you go smaller and up size too, which just adds more expense. Also, an 8' long x 2' deep (front to back) tank will be very narrow and hard to aqua scape. Go at least 30" deep.

Agreed.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and confirmation of my thoughts. Going wider would be awesome actually. My goal is for a pennisula and fish room with any luck.

Some many good threads to keep researching on. Eventually I will be off of this shift and be able to get to more things and see more tanks in person!

Dont go over 24 inches deep from bottom to top though as anything over that is a real PITA to deal with on the bottom .

Unless you have really long arms. But, I agree. Wider, not taller. My tank is right at 24" to the sand and I have to stand on a ladder to get to the top so I can reach down and grab stuff. It's not the most convenient thing. Wet armpits = not cool.

I was thinking I want a walkplank around it to help with that. If I go peninsula then it could double as a spot to eat and stuff.

Thank you everyone for the feedback so far. I really appreciate it.
