Tank Volume Recomendations...

I was wondering how to decide what type of tank shape and size is ideal for various mantis. For example, the recomended tank volume for adult O.s. is 100l. Is this suggested volume because the animal needs the space for roaming and hunting? Or is it more a matter of water volume needed to maintain good water quality? What shape of tank is better? For example, one that measures 12Lx12Wx12H verses one that is 24Lx12Wx6H would have same capacity. If one intends to hook display to a sump thus increasing total water volume does that allow for a smaller display footprint?

It's a combination of filtration and roaming. Peacocks are active and like to burrow and forage and junk. Foot print is more important than height and a 15 gallon with a good footprint would be just as good as long as you can keep the water quality up.

My suggestions for aquarium size and volume are based both on foot print and water quality. O. s are active and a 5 inch animal will do better in an 18" x 30" tank than a deep 12"x24". There are other considerations, however. The broad footprint tank will evaporate faster and require more attention with respect to salinity. The shallow tank will also allow more light to penetrate to the animal and you may want to dial back on the lumens.
