Tanks harassing feather dusters?

Kind of a beginner to doing salt water corals and fish.

My yellow tanks(yes I have three that get along nicely) pick at the base of my hawiian feather duster.
The feather duster looks a bit raw.

Are these two items not compatible?

How can I tell if the feather duster is affected/ stressed/ dying?

Are yellow tangs not compatible with feather dusters?

I don't think that they were nibbling the actual duster, but were eating some algae from it's tube. Tangs are vegetarians, mostly :/

I've never had an issue, but there are no 100% rules in this hobby.
