Tanks on wood floor?

Hey guys,
Hope everyone had a good time at Dr macs! Still bummed I couldn't make it...

I had a chance to see the new place I will be relocating to in the coming months and have to start to decide on what tanks I will be setting up...

So my Q: do you guys have any experience with putting a tank on hard wood floors? is it a bad idea?? is there anything I should do to minimize problems?

I will be going back to renting for a while and really don't want to do any damage to the floors. I have a 120, but i think setting it up is going to be out of the question(time, $, worries about the floor, and the girlfriend has pretty much nixed it). So I think we have compromised and decided that a 55 will be acceptable and less likely to damage the floors due to the weight... although I still have to be careful of the water obviously...

Any feedback is appreciated.
Eric

the only thing that can hurt the floor is water. unless u have a stand with narrow feet then they could dig in and leave dents. if u have a stand like that just use some scrap wood pieces to put under the feet. otherwise it wont bother it. dont use carpet or a towel under it cause if it gets wet it will stay wet and ruin the floor.

I had a 55 on hardwood and the only problem was water. I also put wood under it to spread the weight. located the tank on an exterior wall which is stronger the putting the tank over the joist span.
Even your 120 would be fine. If you are really worried you could build a raised base to spread the weight along the entire length of the tank and not just on the ends, there will be no damage to the floor.

Cool! Thats what I figured as well, but wanted to double check. I wonder if I could get some kind of secondary container for the tank for an occasional spill...

I would really like to set up the 120, but between space issues and the GF I kinda doubt it will fly :( BUT I think I have her convinced that in the next house we own I can set it up in wall style with a support room... I think I can live with that...lol

screw it set the big tank up and if you have problems later down the road with the floor just call me i sand a re finish floors i have my 180 on my floor been up for 2 years and no problems
