Tansu inspired mixed reef & Haddoni:Clown setup

Thanks Vince.

Well, I finally received the plumbing parts from Elos. BUT, I cannot work on this tank for a while now.

:(
I am newly back from the hospital because of some complications. I was on strict restrictions and now on modified bed rest.

I asked the doctor about certain activities, including plumbing the tank. I was told to not work on the tank, and minimal work on maintenance on my other tanks. If I stay healthy into 30 weeks or so, then I would be allowed to work on it then.

So, i contacted the woodworking company to see if they want to just go ahead and put the canopy with acrylic guard and trim back on. I will deal with the plumbing and rock and sand later. I left it up to them if they want to wait for me to plumb it.

I'm quite irritated that this could have been done so much sooner if I had everything I needed when the tank arrived. I even took days off to work on it after it was delivered.

But, my main job now is to be healthy and hopefully I will take home healthy babies.

*sigh*
This must be the longest build ever.

Sugartooth...
i cant find where you posted when you are due?
just checking in to make sure all is good and to see what all has happened (if anything)

Hello friend. Thanks for checking in! I've had a couple of minor setbacks healthwise but babies are still in for now. I'm supposed to be due in July, and really hope I make it that far.

Nothing has happened, but the woodworker contacted me to ask if I had a specific plan in mind for the acrylic that is to go over the wood to protect it from the water and salt creep.

I will draw it out once I have some time and send it to them to see if it's feasible. I would like a thin piece to hug the edge of the canopy and bond it to the wood. Do you know if you can glue acrylic to wood, and have it still look nice and stay that way?

I wonder if over time the wood would change shape just enough to pull the acrylic in different directions.

What are you trying to achieve? A barrier to protect the wood or what? And I can't remember if your canopy is primed or painted or still bare wood?

I may have an idea for you though.

Yes, I want to protect the beautiful canopy. It has been stained and painted, then coated with a water resistant layer. Initially, there wasn't that big of a fear that it would get wet because the tank was supposed to have eurobracing all around.

Since this one came in rimless, I worry there will be splashing and sloshing.

because everything is built so nice.... i am not sure you could get a good seal without being able to see it.

i was going to initially say to use "Epoxy" and paint the bottom of the canopy, and the inside (up to x amount if you want)
epoxy will work, becuase it is what is used to seal wood boats for water purposes.

http://www.uscomposites.com/epoxy.html

it is also what is used when people make "plywood/epoxy" tanks....

acrylic absorbs some water (i dont remember how much) but i know it can swell and fluxuate....
if you had to do something, you could glue some "FRP" fiberglass reinforced panel that they use for shower stalls or what not.... but its not cheap and comes in a 4x8 sheet....
and to make a seal between a corner or something, you would have to silicone it....

those are some suggestions.
i will see if i can find some other options.

Well, I was admitted to the hospital again over the weekend and now at home. It was a bit of a scare, but I'm still hanging in there.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will take a look and send the company a message. If the fiberglass can be made thin enough, I kind of like that option as well. But, then again he needs to be able to find someone that can provide it.....so I may still be stuck with acrylic as my best option.

I got a message from Jesse that they finally found my 'original' plumbing parts and were supposed to send that to me.........I don't think they are sending them since it has been over a month ago.

Here is a picture of the way things look for the last number of months. It's so depressing I can't work on it. But my bigger worry is to keep these babies in!

you can use just the epoxy resin (its a 2 part mix) and apply it to the bottom and inside of the canopy (how ever high you want to go up)

you dont need to fiberglass re-enforce it. its strong enough. you just need a water barrier and wood protector.

FRP is a 2nd product i was mentioning.

either is up to you.

OMG! You are a saint for having so much patience!!!! I would've gotten the Louisville out of the closet by now! JK.......Where in Ill do you live? I could possible help you with finishing your project... It seems as though you're not in the best of health to be messing with this, and I know for a fact that a completed tank to view will help with recovery from almost anything....

I would really like to help....Anthony

FishTeen, jbliss, and SSprince-

Wow! Thank you for going through so many pages of such tank build bs! I have been feeling bummed out about this because I wanted so badly for this to be done so long ago.

What happened was that I went to the hospital and the doctor told me I was done!

I got put on 23 hr. bedrest. Basically bathroom privileges that's it. I was do whatever I could to make it as far as I can with the pregnancy. I was on restriction at 19 weeks, and then the full blown bedrest for 2 1/2 months after that.

AND......I delivered and then came home almost 9 weeks ago! Here I was a week and a half before my water broke:

Tonight I'm going to try to finish the plumbing!

My father came from Cali to help out and today is his last day. So I have to use this help to the fullest. I have been trying to get this plumbed as soon as I recovered from the C-section.

So, believe it when I say that I was pretty salty when I returned to the tank to start plumbing.......and I opened the package that Elos sent me............
and all the parts except for 2 didn't fit the holes!

The holes that were drilled were too small.

I sent Jesse a message and he responded right away to try to find the original box with all my parts. I've run out of patience at this point and am just going to go up and over the top.

THIS HAS TO GET DONE!

Right now, I've finally got the drain tied together and plumbed. I've got half the oceans motions plumbed and then half the return.

Please let me have the energy to finish this tonight!

Anthony- I really thank you for such a kind gesture. I go back and forth, wanting someone to help me so I can get this done, and not wanting help so I can feel like I did it and it's mine.

I hope one day to run into you at a swap or something and chat!
