tap water dechlorinator

I'm currently using tap water for my 55g aquarium, and haven't had any problems yet except for when I do a water change or top-off the water conditioner makes the skimmer go nuts for a few days. I'm currently using Tetra Aqua Aqua Safe conditioner, is there another brand or type that doesn't cause this? Thanks for the help.

Don't use anything that has a slime coat additive. Beyond that, I wouldn't use tap water. Consider your self lucky you haven't had any problems using tap water.

Have you try Chloradsorb? That's what I use, it dechlorinate tap in second and won't make your skimmer go nuts.

I agree about the tap water issue, RO/DI is soon to be in my arsenal, but in the meantime I could do without the skimmer going crazy. I didn't know it was a huge issue using tap water in a fowlr system, but either way i'll be getting water purification system soon. Thanks for the help

I've used the Seachem Prime with no issues...but it's a good week before I add the new synthetic water to the tank after mixing it.

Also, I've read either in my Aqua C Remora manual or on it's site that adding products with a slime coat type formula will cause erratic /inconsistent skimming.

Prime states on the bottle that it won't overactivate skimmers. I use it and never have skimmer issues. I believe AmQuel will also work without making your skimmer go nuts but I've never tried it myself.
