tapping pipe thread on plastic sheet

I have several large sheets of 1/2-3/4 inch hard plastic. Given to me free.

I want to drill and tap on them for pipe connection without bulkhead.

I think I will use galvinized threaded pipe section to tap plastic.

I think I will scratch the metal thread to form a cutting edge.

Has anyone done so? Would heating the pipe help?

Actually, I plan to make many small tanks with 1/2" thick plastic coated with a thin layer of colored epoxy.

define "hard plastic"
acrylic? acetal? pvc? nylon?

You then have no way of fixing any issue that may occur like you could so simply with a bulkhead..

No idea what size you are thinking about you can but you can buy quite a few bulkheads just for the price of the drill bit..

and other reasons..

Tapping plastic to put threads in is very simple, with the correct tool. Depending on the size plumbing, that bit will be pretty pricey. Much better off to use a standard bulkhead IMO

I plan to use a galvinized nipple as the tap. I would cut or scratch an cutting surface.

If you are going to tap, you should be using a proper tap. Otherwise you are just going to screw up the threads
