Taqpol's 220 gallon custom Miracles tank!

Beautiful tank! I am glad to hear you are enjoying your Avast stuff. I've been looking into getting one for my skimmer and might have to after hearing some good reviews on their products.
Avast is an amazing company with great prices and quality handmade merchandise. I would buy from them again in a second.

LOOKING GOOD. tHE FISH ROOM TOURS ARE NICE TO GET A FEEL OF WHATS GOING ON!

Excuss the caps! Really like the locker container. I need to get one. I have had on to many overflows on my skimmer and drives me nuts.
Even without the skimmer cleaner I would get some overflows every once in awhile, and even with it dumping back into the sump it was still a mess. I highly reccomend some sort of skimmer collection device now that I've owned one.

Sick video Alex! You are the gadget master. :D Amazing how many cool things you have packed away in your sump room. Very well thought out. :)
I would like to think I keep it fairly simple, but that little room sure is packed. You should have seen it before I cleaned it up!

+1
Love the video - thanks for posting that Alex. The QT with sliding divider is a great idea. You've made some great use of the space in your "disaster area"!
Thanks! I figured the dividers would be great for introducing three yellow tangs together, but every time I've tried to QT a fish in their they've all died... One set was due to a fish store disease, the second due to a deoxygenaion event before I got its sump online...

Great video! really enjoyed that!

+1, thats a very simple and effective idea.

You have a great sump room!
Thank you!

Awesome video, Alex. I really enjoy it looking at all equipment. Well planned..Congrats

Ja..and love the "Be a Geek" sticker...lol!
On my previous tank I used T5 retrofits I got from Reef Geek. Yet another great company i wholeheartedly recommend for any lighting needs.

Awesome video Alex ! You really put some thought into the disaster room
Thank you!

Great looking tank!
Not to get off subject...but I am coming up to Raleigh the first weekend of June for a wedding. Any shops that you can recommend?

Looking great Alex! That pokerstar monti is awesome. :)
Yes it is! I plan on putting it on the other side of the rock that has my sunset monti on it. That way I'll have an "encrusting monti rock" that will be easy to take out of the tank in case I want to peel a frag off.

Looks like you made out pretty good!
The first ReefSMART I went to was last august and I feel like they had a better selection of vendors and SPS corals that time, but I am still very happy with what I got!

Absolutely!

Reef Keeper's Aquarium has the most amazing selection of fish I've ever seen, and I honestly do believe that his fish are healthier then other peoples as he only buys straight from the collectors. That being said, you pay for the increase in quality.

Down Under Saltwater is a very well rounded store that focuses a lot on captive breeding.

The Fish Room is a good store that stocks a wide variety of corals and has very good prices on LPS.

If you end up heading closer to Greensboro Dubey's Pet World is a really cool store that has amazing prices on quality corals, and fun exotic pets to look at as well.

Anyone like Zoanthids? I'm very happy that my angelfish appears to be indifferent to them.

Someone said these look like Hornets, but I've never really cared about named zoanthids.

That being said, I did finally get my hands on some "Tubb's Blues" that I love the color of:

Nice Zoas, Alex...

Only one thing. I though that when Zoanthids stretch their bodies like in your pics is because they are in need of more light.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

I have heard the exact same thing as you, but I don't really know how much I can do about it. Since my LED light is so focused it drops off fairly rapidly near the edges and corners, right where my zoanthids are. That being said, the big zoanthids are all stretched out while my smaller polyp zoanthids are all normally flat against the rocks, and some even look like they are receiving too much light! All within the same little area of rock...

I also just recently lost an ORA purple plasma in what started as STN, but then moved to RTN the moment I moved it onto the rocks. The coral was light acclimated by moving a frag rack slowly up one side of the glass over a matter of two weeks, so I think its final resting place was just an LED hot spot considering that all the other corals I acclimated in the exact same way are alive and kicking right now.

Even though my LEDs are 14" off the water, I'm starting to wonder if that is too low for a mix of 60 and 80 degree optics. I'm running my LEDs at half power still so I am considering dumping all my 60 degree optics and going with a mix of 80 degree optics and no optics, but I don't particularly feel like dropping $60 just on new optics right now...

Alex have you ever got any PAR numbers on your LEDs? I just recently switched to all LEDs with 60 degree optics about 9" off the water. My zoas responded to " that is way too much light" lol! and had to dim them down alot.

If you go to Post 140 on page 6 you can see the very first pictures I put up when I got the LEDs hung. At the bottom are PAR numbers. Just know that these numbers are for all the LEDs on full blast and with no optics on the central fixture.

Actually, heres the picture again:

Red numbers are at the water surface, black numbers are on the sand bed, and yellow numbers correspond to the area directly in front of a specific coral or rock outcropping.

I promised I would show some pictures of the new clownfish I got from Doni's Reef, so here they are.

This guy immediately got rejected by the old clown in the tank AND by his brother, but he's settled down to host the carpet anemone with the porcelain crab. Also, he has the prettiest markings of the bunch by far!

Clown #2 has a very pretty side and a pretty bland side. This is his pretty side.

They both have awesome cheek spots:

I'm trying to take more videos, but I really need to pick up some sort of software in which I can edit out the sound as well as adjust the white balance.

Nori time!

Nice video!
Depending on your budget for editing software i would recommend Adobe After Effects.
It has a very nice set of tools for colour correction and can edit your audio files too. IMO one of the better software based editing suites.

Funny how your yellow tangs like nipping at the Nori right at the bottom of the clip. Mine does the same thing! Don't they know it will fall off the clip if they do that?

Color correction is important to me. Is it like Photoshop where you have a white balance and tint slider, or is it just various color filters?

I'll take a look into it.
