I miss those days. Me and my dad built about a 3000 gallon waterfall pond in my backyard back in chicago. Had at 1 time 15 koi. Birds got 1 or 2 before we smartened up. By the time we moved which was 3 years after it was built you could hand feed them! My parents are trying to save up to build one down here, but if they're gunna do it they're going big, and big = more money!
Re: Target feeding time! naaah- Roger u have this to look forward 2

I had a small koi pond at one time, I loved it. The biggest fish was a foot long black and white koi I named "Arroz con Frijoles". On Christmas Eve about 10 years ago, we came home to find our dogs had brought the koi in the house through the doggie door. The event has since been referred to in our family as "The Christmas Eve Massacre". :sad1:
I went with Cichlids after that. I had a pair of Pike Cichlids that lived under a rock, they were voracious predators - made short work of feeders or the resident minnows.
Koi are definitely friendlier and stay close to the surface more than Cichlids. Cichlids are still colorful though (bright blue, orange) and can be happier in a smaller pond.
Are we gonna have to start the FBYPS, The Florida Back Yard Pond Society?
