How is the weather for liverock diving? What's the coordinates of the location?

Is there any specific place on the web where I get get info on the weather conditions. I've read on RC that the critters are bountiful in the rocks either before or after a storm.

Would appreciate an update on your next rock shipments; not that I'am rushing you, just anxious.

The weather in the gulf is quite cold and too windy to dive. Just be patient. I am also Richard said he will email all of us waiting for rock. :)

Wow, it is amazing that what seems like beautiful weather on land can be a nightmare on the open water.

Yup

is the way it is....was 3-5 foot yesterday with whitecaps, semi life-threatening....then when I came up from the bottom, it was worse...5-7 foot seas....was a real nightmare going in.......had to putt all the way in as it was so nasty.....is the way it is on the Gulf most of the time......except the dead of summer...but then you have the wonderful lighting storms with it cracking all around you...
is always something!

That sounds kinda dangerous, be careful out there Richard!

Thanks Richard! Rocks are very nice with hole like I ordered, love the big one!

I got my rocks today - they are NICE, and it's only Part 1.
Tank is still cloudy, only found a serpent star, some snails and hermit. I was expecting a lot more critters, maybe in the next shipment. I've seen a lot of members find fish in thier rock. I'll see what pops up tommorrow when things clear.

no flights!

no flights!

Is a good thing we shipped yesterday, as today we are having severe weather and all the flights are messed up/canceled today...

Yeah, I bet the gulf looks like soup with whipped cream on top about now....

and will be nasty for at least the next day or two.

in the tampa bay area today we have seen:

wind up to 70+ MPH
rain and thunder storms.

around tampa there has been at least 1 tornado.

other reports of "sound of a train" and twister like clouds.

even inside tampa bay there are warinings due to the wind making things a mess....

so don't be surprised if diving is on hold for a few days.

I made my pick-up on time and just in time before the nasty weather we're having. The rock I have is full of many crevices and holes as ordered. I just have something I want to I.D. and know if it's dead or alive; looks like cup coral.

Here's picture for I.D.

I hope I get some corals again in part 2, I lucked out on this one.
Is it cup coral? Will it survive? What should I do to help it?

they seem to not like strong light; the ones I have seem to do best in low or indrect light.

also they and the solitary cup corals seem to always be hungry.

and lot's of good flow is a +

seems hit or miss some times....

seems like in low light they stay that golden brown color and in too much light they bleach out.

My part 1 was almost the same. At first the obvious mobile hitvhhikers were a mantis, 3 small stars, stone crab, isopod, and a cuke.

I have since found a large snail, perhaps a whelk. A couple massive bristelworms. There's something else I've never seen before too. It's kind of round and flat with a shell and it moves around on a rock at night. Also a small Urchin. A couple small crabs.

There is also something that looks like a little blob of spit that sends a long net into the current. These have been popping up and seem to like the high current areas.

Now for the non mobile stuff... Probably a hundred or so sponges. Real nice looking macro, cup corals, worms. I beleive i have a gorgonian too. It looked pretty bad with exposed skeleton from the base until the upper half. It looks like it's recovering though. I think the tissue is expanding back down it.

You'll see all kinds of things pop up over time. The funny part is most of the large hitchikers that you and I didn't get, can all be bought. It's all the smaller stuff attached to the rocks that's much harder to come by.

My rock had been in tank since saturday late afternoon. Is it time for the first water change? The Sg= 1.025-26

Also: Can I add new sand on top of the LIVE sand provided or do I need to remove it and place it on top of the new?

I am getting Special Grade Reef (Seaflor brand 1-1.7 mm grain).
