How does the rubber band method work? Do you use a certain type of rubber band?
 
use of superglue gel just glue to the rock you want.

the rubber band method is you take a rubber band (i believe just the natural brown ones is what most use) and rubberband the base to the rock you want
 
Wow three hours of caulerpa pruning and I can see the rocks again. That stuff grows like a grape vine on miricale grow.

I found the orange turbo snail killer last night as well. I watched the slipper lobster who was out on the prowl for dinner in the early evening. Apparently he has a thing for the orange snails as he slowly stalked Mr. Orange by passing other snails on his trip to the kill. Even a last minute attemp to save my lone remaining Mr. Orange failed as he was carted off to be sucked out of his shell. RIP Mr. Orange...........
 
After observing a minute of silence for the passing of Mr Orange, i'd like to know if you found an answer to your frag question.

Did your son get to see the slipper lobster on the hunt?
 
Yes my son watched in great anticipation as the lobster stalked Mr. Orange. Then in the closing seconds he is the one who had the heart and threw on the lights and grabbed the algae scraper and tried to scare off the lobster. But too late...

As for the fragging I moved my Kenya tree to my QT tank and experimented with the super glue gel. It works ok, but I can not believe that it is not toxic. I have looked at several places on line and found that their are many frag products out there. But of course after shipping I could buy 6 bottles of super glue for the price of 1 tube of frag glue. I will let you know if the hermit crabs in the QT go belly up.
 
WOW... Two months after arrival and set up we are still finding critters we didnt know were there. We did a evening feeding last night under the moon lights and we find new crabs. One looks like a red mitax crab, mostly due to the bumpy main shell. The other is an aneome crab and is the size of the tip of a pencil. We found him near the aneome mouth just cleaning away.

WOW new life and it didnt require a trip to the pet store..LOL
 
HAHA.... Another update. I didnt see one of the two pepperment shrimp Richard had sent in the package deal for a while. Then today (She) reappeared fat and full of orange eggs. I had just read the other post about the husband and wife shrimp and now we have a set too. I will try and get a pic of her to post, but she is hanging out in the way back area.

Alge is beginning to get a little out of control on the lower glass and the magnet cleaner doesnt budge it. So I purchased 3 large turbo snails today and they are just grazing away. The path they leave is crystal clear. Let the lobster try and eat one of these bad boys they are the size of golf balls.

Still loving it.... Well I have a confirmed sighting of the mantis shrimp. He is approx 5cm long and is rather well feed. Hmmmm how do i know you ask? He was caught red (clawed) with our green reef chromis. An hour before his untimely death all was good with the world and everyone ate just fine. But i guess while cleaning up left over pelts he ventured to close to a hole in the rock and got nabbed. The only reason i caught him chewing away is because he couldnt pull the fish back in his hole no matter how hard he tried.

So its open season on the mantis boys again......
 
Just an update.... Thought we had lost our crab to the mantis shrimp. But come to find out he was hiding after molting. Still noticing alot of my clean up crew slowly disappearing and alot more click click going on lately. I have narrowed his hiding spot down to two areas, both with no access of course. But other than that the tank is doing well.

Oh by the way I invested in a refractometer instead of using those cheap hydrometers. What a difference. $20 to $30 on ebay.
 
Got the refractometer in and man what a diffrence. i would suggest in getting one of these bad boys. you can get them cheap on ebay. I'll never use a hydrometer again.

Also have spotted a new mantis, he is a light purple color. Much nicer looking than the olive green i have found before. 3 Months after set up and deliever from Richard and I am still finding new things.

Do not forget to calibrate it correctly using Pinpoint 53.0 mS solution and set to 35 PPT (1.0264) and not distilled water as the instructions might tell you to. Most hobbyist refractometers are not designed for testing seawater and may be off as much as 3-5 points if calibrated with plain water to read 0.
 
As always looking for a deal I found a 4 month old Red Sea Max w/stand for just under $400 cash. looks like I will be placing another package deal order soon. First i have to let it hide in the shed for a while unitl the wife needs to order from Victorias Secrets again.... Hell of a trade...LOL

This weekend was the check-for-plumbing-leaks freshwater test run. We're good to go!! I took pictures to post because the stand and hood are absolutely gorgeous. Husband did a fanastic job. I'll post them within the next few days.

Now all that is left to do is move it all to the dive shop. Once it is up and running there, the next step will be to place our order with Richard.
