TBS tank predator/terrorists

I received my TBS rock in June and early on had removed a half dozen stone crabs and another half dozen purple sea urchins (which by the way grew to the size of golf balls in 6 to 8 weeks). I thought all was well and started stocking with fish and corals...generally all well, but not perfect. Some fish and coral loses, and clean up crew attrition. Thought it was new tank syndrome. Tonight I found otherwise. I saw a large Gorilla crab munching on a snail high in my rock formation and saw a 2 inch Mantis shrimp on the bottom of the tank.

Within two hours both extracted from the tank and now in prison. Needed two person method. One holds frozen shrimp on long tweezers near rock, but not under or within structure. One inch out. This person also uses flashlight to light hunting area. Second person uses tweezers positioned close to shrimp bait, moving closer as predator moves in. Both specimens, at this size, have little fear, and will make multiple attempts to get shrimp, even knowing they are under assault. Mantis shrimp was in tweezer grips twice, escaped, and came back for another bite of the shrimp.

Two in one night was not luck. This is a method that works. Only had to temporarily displace two small chunks of live rock. In retrospect, even this was not necessary. These two terrorist specimens have low IQ, and are susceptible to the practice of smart hunting. Tank is big 200 gallons, 24 inch deep.

Luckily I have a second tank plumbed into my system where all my TBS critters live. Would have loved to get a mantis. I did get a pretty cool Toadfish that is growing like crazy. I think he may have finally taken out one of the 2 half dollar size predator crabs that have been roaming around.
