TDS meter questions

Just got my TDS meter in the mail (been in the hobby over a year, but I bought my water until only recently when I finally got a watergeneral RO/DI unit)

The TDS unit I bought on ebay came precalibrated at 342ppm, it included a package of 1382ppm TDS solution saying "TDS in Aquarium, Hydroponics testing:
Recalibrate the HM TDS-EZ/3/4 meters with the 1382 ppm/KCl TDS solution for higher ppm TDS testing needs such as Aquariums, Hydroponics, Pools and Spas." in the auction.

So my question is do I need to recalibrate it using this solution or should I just leave it as is?

Also... not really reef realted but just tested my tap water out of the faucet, 146ppm, after my RO/DI 0ppm (Woohoo) but then out of curiosity tested the water from my fridge door (uses those pur filters that I replace every 3 months) and my Pur pitcher and BOTH tested in higher then my tap water from the faucet?!?!? One at 167ppm and one at 188ppm... I'm confused, shouldn't they be LOWER then tap or is something in the Pur filters putting in extra TDS?

Thanks

Its not uncommon for water that has been passed through granular carbon media to have a higher TDS than tap water, its tastes better though. Pur and Britta are not all they are cracked up to be.

I would not recalibrate the meter. As long as you keep it cleaned with DI water after each use and always keep it capped when storing it it should stay good.
