I just got my hand held TDS meter that I ordered. I have been using a Spectra Pure 90gpd RO filter for several years now. I had always been curious about the TDS in my RO water since I do not have a DI. I tested my RO water and it was 8ppm. Then I tested my tap water 475ppm! Not bad for no DI filter. Ro membrane is new maybe a month old, pre filter and carbon filter ad 3-4 months old. I do think I will add a DI filter. Think twice about using anything but tap water in your tank.

That makes me feel very fortunate when I read what your tap tds is! Ours has never been more than somewhere in the 70's. My filters last months and months .... I even put a second tds meter online a couple years ago because I felt like the original was possibly giving a false 0 as the filters were lasting so long. Amazing what does filter out of our various water supplies when you look at the old filters before chunking them!

Yeah my pre filter goes from white to a nasty brown color. People drink this stuff to. I dont. If you would not drink it why would you want to put in your tank?
Is 8ppm TDS bad for a sps reef tank or is it ok.
