I have been having problems with Phosphates in my tank and found out that my home RO still shows high Phosphates ( almost 5.0) I just got a new RO system that is 100gpd and installed it. I also just got a TDS meter. Before RO the meter says 1671. After RO it reads 167, and after the DI it reads 4. Everyone told me that after the DI filter is should be zero. Is this alright, or is my water so bad I need a second DI filter?

WOW 1671 is high. Are you on well? I am sure another membrane would not hurt, but i would wait from other people to chime in.

After RO it reads 167......that is what I start with before my RO.

If you are on a well, I might be wrong, but I believe that you need a CTA membrane not a TFC.

are you sure you are reading that thing right? ouch...

it may not be worth it for you to use an RODI filter with such bad water.. you will be going through membrane filters like CRAZZZZZY.....

Yes I am on a well. According to the TDS manual, I turn on the unit and it resets to zero, then put it in the water up to 2 inches and move it around for 2 to 3 seconds. I'm still getting about 2.0 on the Phosphates. We took the water in to a LFS and they got the same thing. They got less on their city water with no RO system. We have noticed an increase in the sulfur odor which we advised that during the periods of less rain with cause a larger increase.

Make sure you are using your tds meter after letting water run through your rodi system for 1 min. You almost always get some bad water when you just turn it on.

You are going to go trough membrane's like Bebo77 said. I would personly hook it up at a local family member or friend’s house. Or get it from lfs. Know anyone close that is on city water

If you do decide to use the rodi to save some electric from the well pump run your wast water (from the rodi) into your washer. That way all the water gets used.

If you have a front loading washer that doesn't work. We collect our waste water in a trash can. And then use it to water flowers around the house. Our next project is to a drain on the bottem to hook up a garden house to make watering easier.
We just hooked up our RO/DI last week w/ 0 for phosphate but we are on county water supply.
Good to konw about well since my friend was thinking about buying one and they are on well.

I'm going to retest when I get off work and let it run awhile first. I contacted the person I bought the system off of and he said that he thought anything above 500 was not drinkable. I do have a water softener and this is after that. If this is the case, I hope I don't need a new well since it is only 2 years old.

I have the same issues but mine read closer to 1000, before ro after ro 100 after di about 5 to 7. Really all that I have done is put a phos remover in there with a filter bag every other month or so and it helps alot. But other than that the costs of getting it down to 0 without spending TONS of money(like a whole house ro) outway the benefits. Really it is just maintance nothing more.....

Back flush your membrane often, I was on well in myakka for many years. We where not in the 1000's tds though. Wow I have never seen a TDS that high. My parents are on well with no filters and they run about 600...
Not sure who you purchased unit from but I have used Walter at AirWaterIce...They are really nice people and my give you some free advice. Plus they are located in SOuth Florida so they know our water..I believe the email is Walter@airwaterice.com...Give them a shout, you may just need a different pre filter of some sort....
Also check with Brian Green on here. He is BGDIVING, he starts with some really rough well water on his system as well.....

I am taking a water sample to a lab tomorrow morning for both the chemical analysis and bacteria. Every one I have talked to said with the readings I'm getting now will kill any RO system in no time along with dishwashers, Refrigerators, and laundry machines. If my wife takes a bath, the water is a tan color (yes before she gets in). After I get the results, then I can get a plan of action. After the RO and DI I still get almost 2.5 on the phosphates.

we actually have a whole house sediment filter that i would say takes a lot of that away, but then dealing with the water quality is a whole nother subject.
