In Memoriam
If you like Teardops checkout Reefer Madness.... It had 3
beauties available this morning - only 2 now, I had to have
this "Karat Gold". Dennis

Very nice! A little pricey for a gold teardrop. You know...for just $60 more, you could get a color teardrop from FraggleReef. I'm surprised no one has jumped on that one yet.

That looks heavily photoshopped. It appears to be one of your common bronze tear drops. Beautiful clam for sure (I have one), but you can generally pick those up for about 50 to 60 bucks tops.

Definetly would like to see a picture to compare. I can always be wrong :)

All of RM's pictures are saturated in color. You can get a general idea of how much by looking at their fish page as reference;)

I will pickup on Friday and post pic on this thread.... or
report it was not as expected. Dennis

I'm always leary when a purple coral is on purple-ish eggcrate, red micros are on reddish eggcrate and now these supergold clams are sitting on gold rocks. One the other hand, even with the color saturation it does look like it should be a fairly dark gold clam.

Yea I think they use PS to make some of the colors pop which no one ever sees with their visible eye. I still will say they are sweet clams regardless. Has bronze teardrops gone up in price because I checked and all of them are over 110 bucks. I picked up my 4-5" teardrop for about 40 bucks last year.

Girlfriend got me a 4 inch "gold" teardrop maxima for the bday last week.....50 bucks at a grossly overpriced LFS. Very nice clam...I told her not to get it if it was more than 60 bucks...so i agree with Jay.

And I will be the one to come out and say it......RM photoshops their corals...you know it, I know it and they know it. They have nice stuff, but i think the pics are severe misrepresentations and it ****es me off, which is why i refuse to buy there.:mad2:

As promised, I went to pickup the "Karat Gold" teardrop...
it was as pictured on the site - I do not think any PS tricks
were used, very prominent golden browns and orange.
That being said.... I decided not to purchase, opting for
a few LPS. Thanks Dennis

I wasn't going to chime in on this because this topic has been rehashed on RC countless times but this is ridiculous.
I have seen several different variations of the so called Karat Gold Teardrops and they all basically look the same in person and do not pop like the one shown in the photo. Can someone tell me why the rock under the clam is orange? How many of us use orange lighting on our tanks?

I love how RM's regulars always say how they go to the store in person and note how the livestock looks the same as the photo and buy the livestock in question and never post their own photos proving backup to their claims. Like someone noted above, the best way to verify that there photos are altered using whatever method (Actinics, white balance, PS, B.S. Monitor effects, whatever) is to look at pics of commonly seen livestock like this H. Tuskfish:
http://www.reefermadness.us/RMD_Lienardella_fasciata.htm
I mean really! The red on this fish is to the point of glowing because of the picture effects they are using. AUS Tusks are considered the best of the best and even the most stunning specimens do not look like this even under the bluest of lighting. Just look how the colors have been altered to the point that the striping color radiates into the next stripe color.
