Tech M for byrop! algae- Tested my mag and it reads 900! WAy low and i am using 2-part c-balance. It says 1/4th teaspoon per gallon so I rounded it to 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons. I am about at 120gallon total volume. It says 1 dose only raises it by 18.7 so how much of tech M can I add at once?

i am battling bryopsis ATM as well. i have a 75g display with ~30 in the sump. I dose about 1 cup of MG solution a day to raise 100ppm which is the max rec. raise per day. it takes a lot of MG solution to significantly raise MG to the levels to start eradicating bryopsis. if you do not have a MG test kit, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS METHOD.

+1 to 1 cup per day for 100G volume +/- and agreed that you should not do this w/o a test kit. I've had 3 bouts of Bryopsis and have had to do 3 separate 14 day doses adding 1 cup per day to my 120. Topped out in the 1800s. It's knocked it down each time, but w/o fail, about 2 - 3 months later it starts creeping back. It lurks in deep cracks in the LR, fuge, overflows, etc. It's incredibly resilient.

Takes a long time for my Mag to get back down to the 1300 - 1400 levels too. I haven't dosed any Mg since my last Tech M treatment about 2 months ago, and I'm still in the 1500s with regular water changes.

I have my test kit hence the reason I know I am at 900. So a cup a day you say? I thought holding 1500 plus for 3 days will eradicate it in its entirety? Im just concerned after reaching that 1500plus range Ill have issues with my alk/calcium balance. Also thats a S%^T ton of Tech M!

Yeah, it's not fun to spend that much money to blow through it, but I've read every single thread I could find on it and that's what it takes. 1600 minimum, but 1700+ for a month or more is preferred.

I have a Cal / Alk doser and I barely had to tweak it going from 1400 - 1800 Mag. It actually allows your water to become more super saturated with Ca. I wouldn't worry about Ca, but you will want to check your Alk as you rise your Mg.

Also, some people have had more success by not doing water changes during the Tech M session just to make sure it's getting hit 24/7 and not getting diluted out with water changes. I reduced my water changes to once every 3 weeks (from once every 10 days) for this reason.
