Tek light fan mod

After seeing someones tek light with a fan mod it made me want to hack up my tek and do one myself.
So I had to pick out some fans to use. I wanted something other then just a plain black fan but didn't want any leds either so ended up going with these fans.

What first caught my eye was the red fan blades. Then I seen they came with fan controllers and grills to boot. Also they move a decent amount of air 43.5-87.5 CFM
Next I had to find something to power them. Looked around for some ac/dc adapters. Didn't see what I wanted.
Then I found a external fan controller that would power 4 fans. BINGO.
Ordered one of these.

Called a metal fab shop and they said I could have the holes laser cut for $20. Went out there and it was a no go. Something about there laser bla bla bla. So went to another metal shop and had it plasma cut. Not as precise but it worked.
Came home to find all my parts on my door step. Got started on sealing up all the holes on the fixture. I tried to make it as close to the ATI air flow pattern as possible. Still need to do some work on it but here are some pics.

Begin by taking out the reflector.

Then moved the ballasts over to be able to seal the air slots by them.

Here is the fans which are inside the fixture.

So onto the finished product.

A little vid on it (crappy phone vid).

Ohh, so you don't have to have the fans blowing on the light bulbs? just the reflectors??? Are the fans blowing into the light or away from the light?? thanks!

BTW, that looks so nice.

I have the fans blowing into the fixture. I cut little slots in the reflectors on the hot spot end. I plan on doing a little more to the fixture to get air flow how I want it.

Thanks for all the comments to guys.:smokin:

That is one sweet mod. I've looking to do this for some time, but I can't cut circles worth a poo. I had to settle for two fans blowing on the ends of the fixture from the back. Dunno if that does any good, but I'm sure its better than stock.

You can get hole saws for around $20-30 from your local hardware store. I opted to have them cut for me. Wish the laser would have worked on it but they didn't have the right program to be able to cut over and inch off the surface and the laser would hit the sides of the inside if we had it upside down.
If I had to do it again I would of bought the hole saw and did it myself. Plasma isn't the most exact cut.

I cut two 1/2" slots out of the middle reflectors and two 1/4" slots on the outside reflectors. Roughly. I'll measure when I open it up again and take some pics.
The outside ones are where the screws holes hold the reflector in place. So I had to cut these a little different.
A dremel came in handy doing these cuts.

I still need to drill holes for the air flow to come out the one end (opposite of cold spot). Right now I just have the acrylic shield propped open at one end a bit to let the air out.
I'm going to cut larger slots in the outside 2 when I go back in to finish up and make the air flow how I want it.

Good new, I posted on my local clubs and someone ordered the new par meter that just came out. Just waiting on delivery. So I hope to have some numbers shortly. Hopefully good ones :)

My buddy came up with a name for the mod.
Its now called the TravTek :D

There is enough room between the Reflector and and the frame to fit fans flush inside the fixture? I have the 6 bulb tek fixture and this is really interesting.

Yes with a 25mm thickness fan there is room to spare. I just used the screws that hold the grills on to hold the fans to the top of the fixture.

Jdiddy, you know how I do it man.....lol

mmm sorry I thought I did. I got tons of pms from here and other forums asking about it. I guess you figured it out and made it even better. Again sorry if I didn't reply your pms.
