Tell me about the Tailspot Blenny

What I mean by my title is just what it says!

Who owns em' and how nice are they?

Are they good algae grazers?

Mine is usually perched on top of my red monti cap. He's fun to watch and has a lot of personality. He seemingly headbutts the glass all the time but that's just him eating algae off the glass. He eats anything else I throw in there and is always fat. They're great, peaceful fish.

I love my tailspot blenny... he was one of the first fish i purchased for my aquarium two years ago. He has a great personality and can generally be found perched on a rock or a coral watching the world go on around him. While they do graze, I wouldn't count on it for true algae control unless its a nano. Mine is also pretty timid and can easily be bullied by other larger fish. Overall, I'd highly recommend.

I love my tailspot too. Is there anyone out there that has a tailspot & doesn't love this fish?!

Mine was my first fish, he was shy the first day or so & now is so bold. He perches all over the tank, used to hang out at the top of a piece of rock & has several spots all over the tank. I increased flow in the tank & my lonely mushroom was not happy so I put it in a piece of PVC to make it happier & the tailspot hangs out inside next to the mushroom. He does not pick at corals. I would not rely on it for algae control but they do pick at the rocks for goodies.

I feed Formula 2 flakes every day, mine is not at all interested in seaweed sheets on a clip or small pieces I put in the water. He eats whatever frozen I put in the tank too.

I would love to add a tailspot to my tank as they are great fish, I have Sixline and don't want to take the chance.

I've seen the tailspots listed as herbivores but I've never fed anything in the tank other than mysis mixed with marine snow and occasionally rotifers for other small fish. He eats everything and grazes on whatever algae he can find in the tank and on the glass. He's always fat! Is it necessary to feed them some seaweed or something for necessary nutrition he may not be getting from the meaty foods?

Mine eats everything I put in the tank too, but since they are herbivores I feed the formula 2 flakes first. I try to make the diet as close to what they should eat. Mine won't touch the seaweed sheets or pieces so I go with the flakes. I know there isn't someone wandering Manila throwing Formula 2 flakes in the water but it's as close as I can get.

I love my tail spot, grazes and eats everything.:fish1: My Flame Tang will chase once in awhile, but my Blennie is out in the open quite a bit, even with the occasional harassment:wave: my TSB has never bothered any of my corals:thumbsup:
