Temp controller/heater???

I am semi clueless about them and started to read a bit and look thru sites to just be discouraged at way too much info on a snowy thursday.

I have the 100 in the basement, and right now have a 250 watt and a cheap one running almost full time keeping 77 degrees. Basements cold and covering the top with some acrylic helped, left the sump open.

Anyone have any recommendations or maybe one laying around that they are willing to part with? Do i need a controller and run dual 300 or should I just maybe get a 500watt finnex titanium with controller from Premium aqua for 50 bucks till I see what I need after the halides start cooking?

I might, i have several in a bucket somewhere....it'll take me a while to find out.

FYI, I'm running two basic 300s in a tank out in my unheated garage. The tank system is 100g plus, and the heaters are on all the time, but it stays warm....despite the teens temps.

When I take the cover off its......Smoke on the waaater......

My halides keep mine warm enough in the basement. I actually have a fan going so the tank doesn't get too hot. I'd stay away from the Finnex electronic heater controller. I purchased one and a titanium heater. When the power fluxuates, it reverts back to the factory default setting of 100 degrees. Contacted them and was told that I may be able to adjust the variable resistor but turning a screw that was located under a sticker on the back of the unit. It's nice having an alarm when the tank gets too hot though.

I would not trust the thermostat on any heater.

Look in the selling forum for a used ranco, should be able to get one for $60. They are extremely reliable.

I run a chiller that can overpower my heater, so I don't really have to worry about it. My PC lighting in the fuge and the MH lighting during the day keeps the tank pretty warm anyway.

I just bought a JBJ True Temp titanium heating system. It is GREAT!!! If the power goes out it goes back to what you have it set at.

has a digital controller and remote temperature probe.
