temp drop while on vacation, help please.

Guys, I just arrived home to a very cold tank.

Somehow I didn't leave the ATO working properly (I thought I triple checked everything) water evaporated and sump return pump ran dry, it turns out that my heater is in the sump, and since the pump was not returning heated water from the sump.

My temp was at 71.6F when I arrived, down from 80F which it runs usually at.

What are the action steps I should take right now to bring everything back to normal without any further harm than what's been done already?

Only raise it slowly. Like 1-2 degrease every few days. To fast and it will stun and kill things in the tank.

72 is not too bad. I agree raise it up slowly a few degrees per day and you should be fine. Also next time if you can have some one check on the tank everyday or two.
