temp probe & pH

...I've read the manual over and over, so correct me if this interpretation is correct:

is it that I can't use the main temp probe for pH compensation and I'd have to move it to my pm1 to do so (I got an Apex Jr & pm1)

....questions then are: if the temp probe is moved from the main "Jr" unit to the pm1, can it still be used for system temp?

2ndly, if I get the conductivity probe & pm2 does that then mean I need a 2nd (oir 3rd) temp probe: 1 for "system", one for pH and one for Salinity?

3rdly, just how much accuracy deviation will there be if I skip temp comp for pH anyway?

Yes, of you want to enable temperature compentation a temp probe must be connected to the PM1. The same rule goes for other modules; this is because temperature compensation is calculated within the module and not back at the base.

Personally, I never enable temperature compensation; mainly because the offset at tank temperatures (76-78 in my case) is nearly 0 so I don't worry about it; the value is close enough for me.

thank you...they aren't all that clear on the functions of the modules temp ports tho: meaning the temp probes are used exclusivley for temp compensation or they can have a dual use (for system temp) if attached to a module

Yes, you can use any attached temp probe for anything you want.

I used to be a freak for temp compensation but realized the difference at the temps we typically see is not really worth the hassle for pH... I do use temp compensation for Conductivity, however. As Russ said, you can program against a temp probe connected anywhere on your system, it does not need to be on the base.

Appreciate the replies...if one could give a "demerit" to an otherwise great product it would be that grossly abridged users manual...thumbs up to the UOUG
