Temp Problems

Yesturday I ran my lamps with the fans all day for the first time, came home, and found that my temps were up to 84. Is this a severe problem? I has been running high from the get go. 80 is the usual temperature.

So last night I purchase a iceprobe online, waiting for it to arrive.

Does anyone have any other ideas or comments where I can get the temps down into the green hopefully around 78. I would rather not have to buy a chiller if I dont have to.

I have a Aquapod24. I also ordered two vantec fans to replace the originals, they are loud and maybe the new ones will work better.

Everyone I know that lives in FL and that is a bunch have to run chillers. Now on the other hand....the ones in WI just laugh at the idea. lol
Good luck!

70...that's almost hot! This morning it was 40 and we are all wearing tshirts. I don't get out my winter coat until it is below zero out. Other than that it is just a hoodie and mittens. lol I guess we all adapt to where we live.
Good luck with the high tank temps!

When you say fans, what specifically do you have? Do you have a fan blowing directly on your tank?

Im talking about the cooling fans in the top of a Aquapod that I have, I guess thats the same as a Nanopod. They are the standard fans like computer fans (2) they are noisey too. So I ordered Vantec Stealth fans that was mentioned here at RC to replace the originals. I also ordered this Iceprobe, which is suppose to be great for Nanocubes.

A lot of people, including myself, have success buying a $7 clip on fan and blowing it directly onto their sump/tank. It drops my temp 2-3 degree's in the few months of summer.

Isolate the fans and lamps from the top of water with a thick piece of glass. Thats what I did here in Miami and the temperature with 2 MH 175w increases only by 1.5 deg the most after 10hrs.

70 degrees is cause for a celebration in WI...we all go to the beach and try not to trip over each other. LMAO

I'm glad I don't have to worry about the whole too much heat thing. :) It's easier to add heat than take it away. :)

When I lost AC on one of the hottest days of summer last year, my tank never rose above 85 degrees. I've heard from a few people on here that it can rise as much as 89 degrees before you have dieoff.

What I did was freeze bottles of water, for my tank I used a few 2 liter soda bottles but you can use a small water bottle, and floated them in the tank. I actually floated mine in my sump but in the tank will work too. You have to be careful that the temperature doesn't drop too rapidly or too low. I put a bottle in for 10-20 minutes, then took it out and refroze it, then maybe an hour later put it in again. It was a lot of effort but the fans wernt quite cutting it.

The other thing you can do is turn your lights off until the ice probe gets there. A week or so without lights won't hurt your corals.

Can you freeze RO/DI and put a chunk in the rear sump?? Just until my Iceprobe shows up and gets installed???

Yes you can! It does work or so I have heard from friends in warmer states.
