Temp Question

I have been running my tank at 78-79 degrees. I spent a couple min. looking up what LiveAqua says my fish temperature ranges. And all the fish I have ever supposed to be between 72 and 78 degrees.

What besides electricity would be advantages of lowering my temperature a couple degrees?

Am I really going to notice a difference if I drop at the Max temp to be 76°?

Possibly slower coral growth, but no big deal. I run 75-79 on my tanks.

Diseases are more easily to break out in cooler water but 76 should be o.k. Mine gets down to that when it gets real cold. So far everything has done well.

Please link something that proves that.

I have my doubts of this as well, most biological processes increase in rate in correlation to temperature, I would also assume this applies to reproduction of some harmful bacterial and parasitic diseases as well.

so possibly the opposite of this claim in some cases.

I believe you are correct. I've been doing a fair amount of research into keeping sea horses. One of the big reasons that seahorse tanks are kept around 70 degrees is that it slows the growth of harmful bacteria. Seahorses are very susceptible to bacterial infections. The cooler the water, the fewer infections that have to contend with.

Increased temperature will simply move Crypto through the stages of its life cycle faster (by increasing metabolism). It will still go through all three stages, but spend less time in each and still continue to infect any susceptible host.

Temp Question

Lower temperature will also increase oxygen content. Not necessarily a ton but that is dependent upon water movement, stocking habits, etc. etc etc.
