Temp Questions

I just set up my new 120 gallon tank last week. Its in my basement where its cool. My sump is resting on 2x4s off the concrete. I have a 250 watt heater running and the best that thing has been able to do is 77.8 degrees. Its laying in my bubble trap so all the water passes over it.

My question is, What temp do you guys keep your reef tank at. I wanted to go 78-79 but it might easier to go 76-77. Is that to cold?

Thanks for the input guys

My tank room is in the basement as well. I shoot for 78 degrees. I have a Ranco temp controller with 2- 250w heaters. My low set point for the controller is 77 and the high set point is 79. Hope that helps good luck.

my Sump is in basement but tank in living room.. My Tank gets up to like 77 in the day when m/h lights are on down to 74 at night in the winter time.. spring and fall if we open windows and doors to house it can creep up to 78 Chiller comes on at 79. But the tank never gets to there.

My setup is 10 days old. In the house. Tank has a glass cover (for now). Ambient temp is 75F. Cabinet door are not installed yet. Tank temp is 79.5F - 80.5F. Heaters never kicked in. I don't have the light on.
