temp recommendation for conspic angel

they are not deep water but definitely a sub tropical fish. 77 is the absolute max I would keep them at. I keep my tank at 70-72 with spikes to 74. high 60's low 70's is what you should keep them at.

well the room temp is at 23 degrees C all the time, which is like 73 I think.
so I should be able to lock it at around 74 without a chiller hopefully. or just some fans over the sump and tank.

I spoke to a reefer from Autralia, and they were telling me that if I introduce it to reef temps [77 F] from small size, the fish can adapt to it ! and he went on about his bandit pair at 80 degrees, but secret was he started with 2" specimen !
does this make sense to you guys ?
seahorses I keep at 80 degrees, and they are fine[over 5 years now], but they are used to higher temps in ocean, we keep it lower in our tanks to lower chance of bacterial infection. so those make more sense than a conspic living in colder waters ?

They are a subtropical fish. One of our local members even caught a small juvenile a few hours north of Sydney where the water is temperate.
My guess is you could keep it in warmer water but would this shorten its lifespan?
Also would it be more prone to stress related illness if you did so?
The relatively small size of the fish will make it easier to adapt but I'm not convinced that it would flourish at typical reef temperatures. JMO.

i think 76 is a good happy medium for the conspic and your reef. i tried a couple of fans over the sump before last summer. without the fan, i was up to about 78-79. with the 2 fans over the sump, i was 76-77.
try looking up Jawsee in the large reef section. he has a big reef and a conspic.

The species has been living in subtropical temps for thousands of years. I don't think buying them small is going to make them somehow adapt to a high temp.

We need a marine biologist to weigh in, but you would think that the chemical processes in the body would be affected if run at a ubstantially different temperature than they evolved at. Who knows how much difference it would make at the temperatures involved. Others have indicated in these types of threads that a major issue is that cooler water fish are more susceptible to bacterial infections at higher temperatures.

IF your friends from the desert were cold blooded, they wouldnt last long in Canada either, fortunately for us mammals we dont take on the temperature of our environmentyap supposedly coming from new caledonia.

I agree with Chris 77 Max for temp. In the summer, I just have the Thermostat set at 77 for the airconditioned to turn on and have fans automatically blowing over the sump if it goes higher than 77. The airconditioned keep everybody happy in the house, not only the fishes If you go this route just make sure you have an auto top-off system.
