temperature stress?

I heard that temperature can cause stress. My tank's temperature without lights on is 76 degree and increase to 80 degree with lights on. Will this temperature change cause stress?

Seems like a large swing and if you have corals, I start to get nervous if the temp passes 80. Some fish may tolerate it better than others. The issue with temperature often comes into play with Ich in the tank and it gaining a stronghold on stressed fish.

That said, my Chiller was plugged into a GFI that tripped this past weekend. When I arrived back, after being gone for 3 days, the water temp was 90 F. I keep it at 75. I brought the temp back down over 24 hours. Fish did fine. Lost only 1/2 of one Acro and a cleaner shrimp. My mystery wrasse isn't acting himself though. I think it affected its swim bladder.

Ich IME tends to improve with elevated temps - > 82 F. As always, if you fish are thriving you are probably OK, though high temps will likely shorten their lives.

A 4 degree F deviation is not that bad. Most reef fish come from places that have much bigger swings in temp (Indonesia, Philippines).
