Tenative stock list HELP

Here is a tenative stock list for My 75 gal mixed reef. I'd like to have inverts but I cannot get past getting a fuzzy dwarf so I believe those might be out of the question.
Sailfin tang
Fuzzy dwarf lion
Mandarin goby
Black Saddleback clown x 2
Lunare wrasse
Dwarf flame angel
Ruby red dragonet
that was my original stock list but I want to absolutely overhaul it cause I want to have a peaceful tank to watch and plenty of corals. I want very colorful fish and plenty of movement. My only must haves:
Pistol shrimp and hi fin goby
Sailfin tang
Mandarin goby
Fish that are not going to eat my inverts
A dark pair of clowns. I would love some designer black clowns such as snowflakes, but due to the price I will probably have to go with a pair of black saddlebacks unless someone wants to sell me some cheap black snowflakes :p
Let the suggestions begin!

Lunare wrases are definitely out then, they are quite aggressive and will take out motile inverts. The lion will be out too with the mandarin and goby. Without those two, fairy and flasher wrasses are an option.

too much competition for pods with both a mandarin goby and a ruby red.

your tank is much too small for a sailfin tang.

flame angle probably isn't reef safe.

there is a sticky thread in the "new to hobby" forum where steve (snorvich) will review your stocking list and let you know if things are compatible. he is very knowledgeable and has been a huge help to me. i won't even think about buying a fish till i run it by steve. :)

A already posted to that thread and he was kind enough to point me in the right direction. The top list is my old stock list. The bottoms are my only must haves so that's why I am asking opinions. I planned to get a sailfin and when it gets too, large sell it. what is something that would be comparitive to the color and personality of one?

As whats been mentioned already about a sailfin tang. I ditto skipping it. I've personally had one in a 75 gallon only to return it because it was killing half my fish. Granted it was barely 3 inches big.

Some people would say no way to a tang but if you want a tang I would do a chevron or yellow eye kole tang.

Seriously a sailfin will kill every thing. You want a healthy tang and normally when they are healthy they are jerks in a small space.

Either way make sure your tang is the last fish you add. Or second to last fish if you want a dwarf angel. Remember you are always taking a chance with a angel and coral.

Instead of the a tang another fish that adds colors and loves to swim around and does good in a smaller tank is a one spot foxface.

You could probably do a fuzzy dwarf lion and be safe with some of the larger shrimp and pistol shrimp. I had one for awhile with my fire cleaner shrimp.

If you want a mandarin or ruby red wait till your tank is at least a year old. People stress the pod population and they need to. These fish will starve in a new tank.

I would personally add, if you want a wrasse and you want color, a (pair or trio too) fairy wrasse of some sort their are plenty out there. Just make sure your tank is covered.

In addition to the fairy wrasses, basslets are anther colorful family; a black cap basslet comes to mind.

If you want other smaller colorful fish some of the smaller anthias come to mind. Or you could do a small grouping of cardinal fish.

Sorry to bust your chops on the sailfin but your asking for trouble. Love your ideas of clowns, goby/pistal shrimp combo and mandarin in time.

i have a yellow eye kole tang in my 75g. he's a model citizen, very very pretty, healthy as a horse, is ALWAYS out and about picking at the rocks. he will eat out of my hand. the picture doesn't do him justice...he's bright purple! i think a better choice for you is a tang that will permanently fit your tank, not one that you will have to rehome in a matter of months. just my 2 cents. :)

Thanks guys! I really like the thought of anthias as I have found some very colorful ones online that I'd love to have. Are they schooling fish? And also I was told about a male to female ratio problem. can anyone advise about this? I really like the foxface but If I have a theme of small fish I would rather keep smaller fish. The yellow eye is nice as well. Yours is beautiful!

I would love a wrasse for the cleaning that they do. I have heard they are very aggressive though. What should I be prepared for with the wrasse? I really like the idea of a wrasse because of the way they swim and their colors

Thanks for the help as always guys. here is a new stock list I just made. How does it sound to yall? Most are all small fish so instead of one big show fish, I am thinking I will have alot of small colorful movement.
Hi fin red Banded goby
Tiger pistol shrimp
Common Cleaner wrasse
Two black Saddleback (or snowflake) clowns
Royal gramma basslet
Barletts anthias or Carberryi Anthias (possibly a small school such as 3 or 4)
A firefish
And the clean up crew (snails/hermits/shrimp)

Wrasses are typically only aggressive to other wrasses in the same species or class; i.e. can't normally keep fairies with other fairies. Otherwise wrasses are awesome. Colorful and always moving. The only thing to remember is a covered tank.

I like your updated stocking list. However I would not get a cleaner wrasse. It will die without other fish to clean parasites off. Look at a fairy or flasher wrasse (McCosker; or there are a bunch of other ones). If you worried about having something to clean fish with get a cleaner shrimp (fire or regular).

Otherwise you are on the correct stocking list, in my opinion.

That is such good news! I will look at a different wrasse. Is any wrasse better at cleaning the substrate and pests than others? I would love to have some functionality

if you're looking for color and function, look at a yellow coris wrasse. this is mine while he was still in qt. he was shy for a couple of months but he's out all the time now. i have seen him picking at flat worms on the rocks so there's a little plus to having one in your tank.

Wrasses are great fish! I also have a yellow fin flasher wrasse and a red velvet fairy wrasse, both males. They all get along fine.

banjowalker, my local LFS sells snowflakes for real cheap. Like $30 each. He has a distributor in LA that can get them for that price. It's almost like he doesn't know how much he could sell them for! I've only seen the orange snowflakes in his store, but he might be able to get some black snowflakes. He stocks amazing, healthy fish. He goes to the best suppliers in LA every other week.

I believe he will ship fish anywhere. Here's his website. His name is Mark:

Good luck!

Thanks! I will check him out. do you know if they're tank raised? And do clowns ship good?

I believe they are tanked raised. I believe clowns in general are among the hardiest of marine fish, and Mark really cares about these animals, so if they won't ship well, he'll tell you. But people here are amazed at the prices he can get for snowflakes. I will say that the snowflake pairs I have seen in the store are beautiful, but they are small. But clowns grow fast. Give him a call and tell him Brett referred you....

Thanks.

This list is looking better. I had a six line wrasse and really enjoyed it. It wasn't aggressive towards an of my other livestock.

The Royal gramma on the other hand was a PITA. He was one of my favorite fish, but after a year, he grew a little and was bullying absolutely everyone, even fish bigger than him. He wasn't really all that large when he started getting aggressive either. I eventually had to tear down the entire tank to get him out and just donated it to my local LFS. As much as I love the royal gramma, I'd never take that risk again.

I sent him an email. would a call be better?
