Probably because of the ease of use, it's very easy to tell color change with the API calcium kit.
But if your question was more: "why API for calcium and nothing else?"
I'm with you on that one. I know that there are more accurate tests out there, but for my application and most other hobbyist, API is accurate enough and easy to read.
I like both API and Salifert. API is simple, quick and easy to use as stated above. Salifert can be a little more accurate, although I checked them against one another and received the same results!
Cheers~!

I used to use Salifert for everything, but I had heard good things about API's price/performance ratio so I ordered cal and alk. The alk was not precise enough for my needs, so I went back to Salifert with that one. The API cal was spot on with my Salifert with an acceptable resolution, so now I pay less for the same performance. I haven't had to replace any other kits, but I would want to see an API in action before I paid for it. I'm persnickety like that.
