test kits?

Who makes the best test kits? I am currently needing to replace my ph test kit only, but was wondering if some kits excel in testing one parameter and fall short in others. My current ph test kit is a dry tab type that has very broad readings.

Thanks
Jerrod

IMO digital meters are the only way to go for ph. Milwaukee makes the Ph 600, its fairly cheap, 26.99 @ petsoulutions.com, or if you ever go to norman, Wet Pets sells them for 30. Other than that, salifert makes the best test kit, but their exspensive. API makes a decent kit thats easy to use.

I prefer Salifert. Like a lot of men, I am a little color-challenged, but the color changes are easy to detect with the Salifert kits.

Just because it's digital doesn't mean it's more accurate....just easier to read. Most people don't calibrate meters often enough, not to mention most meters were never intended for exposure to salt water, they were brought into our industry by some company that saw a potential sale. Keep in mind a $20 test kit that does 20 tests [essentially $1 per test] and your asking your eye to distinguish a "hue change" not color change for most kits, and you want to know the difference between ppm [that's parts per million, an infinitely small number] - your asking a lot for a $1. Regardless of test kit, give up on knowing a number, be happy with a range and use multiple kits.

We use a medusa Chemtester CM-755 when we want to be sure,I have tried about all the other test kits and this one is far more accurate.Keep in mind that it does cost more but for testing Nitates,Phosphates,PH,Ammonia,Nitrites,Copper you cant beat it...

I have had a hard time finding Salifert kits anywhere locally. Any one else having that problem?

I just must be missing them. I look for them everytime I'm in.

I don't get in there very much :rolleye1: but the last time I looked, they were in the back on a shelf just beneath the Kent Marine chemical products.
