Picked up a Nikon 85mm macro lens over the holidays for my D90. I haven't used a macro lens before, and am a newbie photographer, but thought I'd share a couple pics that turned out pretty good.

A purple haze frag.

An unknown acro. This one is cropped down from the original size.

Shot a few more pics today. This time I used a remote to trigger the shutter, which helped keep sharper focus. Here's a sunset monti frag with no crop.

Nice photos! I esp. like the last one... looking forward to more pics. I'm considering a macro lens myself... either the Tamron 90mm or the Canon 100mm. Just need to save up lol!!

Nice shots.
should the purple haze have red polyps?
what flow and light are you keeping it under?

Thanks for the feedback. Dunno about the polyps on the purple haze. Maybe it's just some other purple monti. Tank is about 60 gallons, 4' x 2' x 12" high. Flow is one Vortech + the exchange with the sump. Lighting is dual 250w halides. One side is an XM 20k, and the other is a Phoenix 14k.

Ricordea

Ricordea

Here's one of a turquoise colored Ricordea. White balance isn't great, but I was happy that the focus.

Acan

Acan

And an Acan. Exposure is crummy, but focus is pretty good.

What are the transparent "tendrils" around the mouth called? They look remarkably similar to the trichomes on a certain recreational plant. :)

Undata

Undata

And an Undata. I notice that the "tissue" looks sort of translucent, so I'm curious about what the skeleton looks like for one of these.

Very nice polyp extension. I always wondered what my purple haze looked like up close. The polyps are so small.
