My non reefing girlfriend just read this entire thread, upside down and backward posts included and laughed her *** off. I think this means we all pass and more importantly, I get to upgrade my tank!

Just informed that that was wishful thinking on my part, delusions brought about by all the blood rushing to my head by upside down reading and copious amounts of alcohol.

And many nonposters to this thread thought nothing good could possibly come from it.... but we believed :D

Maybe she just needs more alcohol lol

Its ok I understand my wifey isn't into it either... be glad you atleast have a tank up and running not sitting empty stashed away in the upstairs pool room that we don't use so I don't have to see it empty (cuts down on my crying sessions) :(

I actually have a 125 sitting in my basement, empty, right next to a 100gal tank, also empty, right next to an empty diy 65gal acrylic tank and stand. I think I might have a problem, I have more empty tanks than full ones. Oh well, I guess I'll have another beverage and watch my diy skimmer make bubbles.

Trust me fish, I totally understand.... I have the 75, a 45 (which is my future sump), a 15, and even a 1.75 all empty.... Along w/ a skimmer, 250w MH, 65x4 PC, 3 20" NO flourescents, roughly 100 lbs of sand, 2 pumps, a heater or 2, an RO unit, and enough left over plumbing material to plumb 100 tanks probably (before the market started sucking was big in remodeling homes... need a house in MI?? lol), and theres probably some things I am forgetting... all collecting dust :(

Definitly suggested, however I have seen beautiful set-ups without one. Basically you want some form of really good filtration. IMO it doesn't matter so much where the filtration comes from, as much as it matters that it is good and the tank owner doesn't mind rolling up their sleves and doing a good manual cleaning if need be. If your going to go old school and rock a HOB then just make sure your cleaning and changing your filter media properly and as needed, same w/ a canister.
thank you for your answer,

even tho i was actually kidding,

like, ok i was reading the whole thread and i still dont know if i should use a skimmer or not,

but since this thread will make thread of the month, i guess we should keep it on target, where els could you learn more about a reef tank,

just read this thread very carfull and you have all the answers ,

Hey if we're incorrigible what does that make you mr. multiple poster as well :P. Even the lounge can't pull something like this off w/o an argument breaking out I'm sure lol.

To me its all about having fun, the whole reason I am getting into this hobby. If I wanted to get in fights, argue about whats right and wrong I'd take up a hobby my wife enjoys LOL

I think you miss my point. I don't blame anyone here for contributing to this kind of thread, because the lounge is not a friendly place. It is not our fault that the lounge is not a friendly place. If the mods would like us to keep these posts to the lounge, then the lounge should be a more friendly place.

Whys, I knew what you ment :) I was just giving you a friendly "hard time" lol I don't really think the mods have a problem w/ this thread being here... its over a couple days old, over 100 posts and over 1000 views now and no action, move, or even mod postings :D The way I see it... were not hurting anyone why mess w/ a good thing lol

dwd5813, Its not always friendly in the lounge, but hey there are alot of threads all over the place that get semi/ overly heated lol.

In several respects, no. But not you dwd, and not BradsOcean, and a couple other of course. But in my experience, there is a definite clique in the lounge that does not like new visitors and actively discourages the full participation of others on this site. I do not believe mine to be an isolated experience. This acts to the detriment of the reef central community as a whole.

well, i'd be lying if i said i've never seen anyone run out of there, but for long lasting negative sentiments there usually have been extenuating circumstances. i guess there's a hazing period too

I'm glad this post hasn't been forced to the lounge, I will very rarely/ almost never venture there for various reasons lol
