Texas parks and Wildlife have approved and are now in the works on creating a new reef.

This is to create a diving and snorkeling site and natural reef and habitat for marine life.

The initial plan is to have the reef a little ways north f S. padre island to help catch Mexican people from fishing American waters.

My parents own a condo complex on the island and went to a home owners island meeting disscussing the plan to build the reef. I plan to volunteer to help with the project.

Here are some pictures of the island where I have grown up coming to.

I have investigated this island which is home to reef life Including but not limited to Gobies, blennies, urchins, rock anenomes, damsels, srgt majors, garden eels, angelfish, butterfly fish, pipefish, puffers, frogfish, trigger, scorpion fish, rays, and sharks.

Also game fish, crabs, and an array of inverts.

I will post a link to the information once I get emailed from my step father.

Oh how I miss living near the beach. Keep us updated on the progress and take pictures! I also will plan a trip down there for this once it is completed :fish1:

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I bet it will be really rewarding to help with this project.

That is pretty cool.

btw, not to get too off topic but how is S Padre for a vacation spot? Like if you don't have the time/cash for a full blown mexico or caribbean vacation but want to get away for a few days?
Nicer than Galveston I hope???

It's a great spot much better then galveston. The water is a lot clearer and is usually blue and clear the beach is also a lot cleaner. I enjoy S. Padre a lot and have been coming back whenever I can.

Was about to say... isn't it just mud soup over there?

Very neat. I've spent a night or two and some very pleasant mornings on Padre Island beaches.

South Padre Island is very nice, but it is small and one of the more expensive destinations on the Texas coast. Those are not bad qualities, just sharing them.

I took a good hard look and the problem I'm having is the hotels/resorts seem to be only low and mid-range with so-so reviews.
Was hoping to find some really nice places.
