memorial day is the day to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice those who gave their lives for out nation.
Veterans day is to thank those of us who went into harms way and were lucky enough to return to our great country the country that the men and women died for
so on memorial day please dont thank us it is not our day. But sit back take a moment toss one back or do what ever it is you enjoy doing and remember those who died to make it possible to do those things
respectfully submitted
Well said...+1I'm a bit late to this party. I saw the thread when it was new, and have been torn about whether or not to chime in.
No doubt, you are right, Memorial day is for remembering those that lost their lives trying to keep America free. I am eternally grateful to them, and the loved ones they left behind. There are no words deep enough to express the kind of gratitude I feel for the brave, selfless men and women that fought and died so that the people I love can live as free Americans.
To the countless parents, children, siblings and friends that loved and lost these brave men and women, I am truly sorry for the loss you have suffered. It takes a special kind of person to put their life on the line for strangers. Them being so special, makes their loss even worse to those that loved them.
That aside, our Soldiers and Veterans don't get anywhere near the respect and recognition they deserve. I know that Memorial day is not Veteran's day, but I suspect that most civilians don't even know when Veteran's day is, even though they get a day off of school/work for it.
When they get the urge to thank you for what you do/did for us, and our country, even if their gratitude shows up at the wrong time, understand that it's not disrespect for those that died, but real heartfelt gratitude that they are unsure of how to express the other 363 days of the year.
One more thing...
Thank You for your service.
