Thank you, Tubs!

All good things must come to an end. I guess I saw it coming, but didn't imagine it would happen this soon. It appears that John will be hanging up his tongs:(

excerpt from the site http://www.exoticreefs.us/ :

Hi Everyone,

I have much news to say. I've made an arduous decision to move on from the hobby and from managing Exotic Reefs . But I do have good news in that Exotic Reefs will continue its legacy in 2 forms...

...As for the farming network legacy, Jeremy Hale (whodah) and Hector Omapas (tacocat) will assume control and will continue to provide the essence of what Exotic Reefs was and that is to provide rare hobbyist grown eye candy. The new entity will be known as Exotic Frags (exoticfrags.us) and will ever more emphasize its focus on hobbyist grown coral fragments. I will stay on as a farmer and general consultant and will help to build and maintain the farming network. Look for the opening of this website soon at exoticfrags.us.

In a nutshell, I needed to take back time to dedicate more to family and career and perhaps in the future I will set up another tank but for the time being I won't miss scraping off coralline algae for about 50 square feet of acrylic. But I am very excited to see Exotic Reefs live on rather than just simply wither away and am also happily relieved that Jeremy and Hector stepped up to the praise worthy endeavor of continuing to supply hobbyist grown frags at a commercial level.

Thanks to all of you especially those of you that have supported me greatly in the last three years and for the many lasting friendships that I have gained!!

John Susbilla - tubs

I know you'll hate this, so I'll try and keep it short:p

Without a doubt, and I know many of you would say the same, John has been one of the BEST individuals I've ever dealt with in this hobby. You sold me my first T. maxima so many years ago at The Fish Tank, only to reconnect later to help satisfy my rare SPS cravings:lol:

John, it saddens me that you're leaving, but I'm glad to hear that Jeremy and Hector will continue on where you've left off. Thank you again for all you've done for the hobby, and thank you for being such a good friend.

Take care and hope to see you soon, bro!

Karl

PS: and I won't forget the spanish rolls;)

With all of the "departures" from the "hobby" of the last several months, it makes one wonder what is in store in the coming months for the Bay Area reef community. I almost feel like we are losing our identity here on the West Coast, and I continually feel like we are losing family.

Yeah, it’s really sad to see so many “old timers” leave the hobby.

We also got some of our very first corals from Tubs, as well as ROAB, and their tanks have been inspirations for many.

We can certainly relate to spending more time on family. However, we have come to terms with keeping our tank with relatively easy corals, all started from local frags, and not get too upset if we have a loss.

Another point that we would like to make is, to please continue to support our local reef clubs, BAR and SEABAY. We are very regular SEABAY’ers, and met John and many other reefers at one of the bi-monthly meetings. Despite the fact, that we have had outstanding speakers over the last year, we have really noticed a decline in attendance. So, even if you are not as active with your reefs, please continue to come to the club events to keep in touch with other reef buddies.

Yeah it's sad to see(hear) them leave the hobby.

But what we can hope for is that a lot of their stuff made it out, and others are farming it and have it distributed around so that even though they're gone, there spirit still lives on.

... and I'm still waiting for the spirit of tubs to get me a pink lemonade :D

I'm just gettiong started :-) after many years in FW / planted tanks. Planning a AGA 54 corner tank. This will take what is currently in my 12 gal nano.

Ummm, pardon my ignorance, congrats on the upgrade and all, but what does this have to do with the thread topic ? :)

john, you will be missed :(. always enjoyed visiting your place when in the bay area. perhaps you'll be back one day?

i completely understand the family and work demands taking priority. and if you read this...make time for yourself too on that Orbea! the amgen tour comes up this way in a few months so maybe we can meet up.
