I am getting out of SPS for good. No more. I can't take the loss. I can keep killing all these beautiful Acros and really I want to go a full on

Zoas, Palys, Acans, Chalices, fungia, mushrooms, and a few very select few Acros maybe 4 that I will keep. So here is my list. Be warned that some of them need so sweet TLC to come back. But they are crusting and growing. It would take a week or two get good colors. My tank is just not SPS friendly right now. Some flourish and some don't so instead of losing them they gotta go. My loss your gain some of the Acros have burnt tips but that's it. The overall health could be better but in a SPS system they will just fine.

I'm so sorry but understand. Sometimes better and wiser to step back then out completely. Mostly lps and softies now and they are definitely easier and more forgiving (though I still dabble in sps). I think of the money spent on killed corals and what else that could have bought (either for tank or elsewhere). Good luck in what you decide.

Shawn from speaking reefers that are WAY better than me I have learned that they too can have bad tank days but that is one of the challenges that I think we can overcome. =) stick with it man.

I agree with everybody else. The fun part about this hobby for me is taking care of my corals and watching them grow. Maybe people feel it's a second job for them to try and keep these corals alive. You need to sit back a little and enjoy the excitement this hobby brings to you. Don't give up Shawn. You will regret it later and eventually come back to what you loved about sps. Your tank looks great from what I have seen in pictures and I would hate to see you give up on what you love.

When i was living in sac, my corals were on its way to becoming full blown colonies before my wife decided to get a bigger house. I had been very successful in running 2 part with kalk wasser/reefcrystals and I had already deciphered the sps code. But i knew then that it meant sacrificing the tank because I sure can't do the move and provide full attention to my tank. I ended up killing most of the sps after the move. Imagine all the hard work wasted within weeks. I moved from Natomas to Roseville a little over a year ago so I basically had to start over again from 1" frags. I had several setbacks from adding too much kalk, adding a tribal blenny to leaky bulkheads and equipment repair but I knew the journey continues with promising results. My tank now mimics john's 600 on its prime. All my rocks are covered with coralline along with the bare bottom floor. You could put bare dry rock in my tank and it will be completely purple in weeks. I rarely scrape green algae. i scrape coralline. My frags have all encrusted and growing. All my montis are cupping and my colors are improving. I am actually looking into getting a dslr camera to document my progress.

My goal is to have a full blown sps/clam tank. No other alternative is acceptable to me. If I can't do that then I would not even keep a tank anymore. The only zoas and lps that i still have were from my tank in sac. And with 8 or more rabbitfishes i will have no soft coral in my future. They picked off most of the zoas already. When I go to your reef and get a frag pack you could be assured it is all sps. I do not expect to have 100 percent survival rate on new frags but those that make it past 6 months shows me who will become big colonies. Just hang in there. We all go through the same sh-t one time or another. But it always get better.
