The 190 saga turns left..

Well after going through all the stuff that came with the 190 and cleaning what was still usable I am left with the lights (2 halide systems and 1 florescent system) , 2 pumps and 3 powerheads. None of the skimmers were worth saving. Finished cleaning the tank today and the top is cooked from the halides, they were mounted too close. So in the morning I start cutting the tank down, I will be using it for my oscars. But on the plus side wife told me today "will you just go get a tank made and quit screwing around,, we will call it your birthday present"..:love1: So how thick would the acrylic need to be for a 2x2x5 rimless and what would be the best way to do overflows with that type of tank

Yes but, the two glass stores around me are big chains and the are REALLY proud of the glass (one wants $70 for a 2'x4' piece of 1/4) There is a local plastics store that is a mom and pop, he will let me have the acrylic at his cost (sheet of 380 for 3/4" and 550 for 1")and just charge labor for the cutting. The rest I can do at home..

You may want to put this in the DIY forum.

I would think 1" would be needed for rimless acrylic 5' long. Personally I would just add a 4" eurobrace and do 3/4" but then I tend to have hoods to hide my lights.

I would look into the BeanAnimal drain setup and do a coast to coast overflow along the back wall. 1" drains are the smallest I would ever have and since I was making those I would just keep with 1" returns to match.

Good Luck,

I am going to use the 1". I shouldn't need any bracing with that should I?
I will look up that drain setup.

This will be a reef tank in the end, so how high off the water surface do the Halides need to be.

Tank will be shaped like the old school carpenter boxes, so I need to know how high the ends will need to be.

How do I move this thread, it actually would make more sense in DIY

Forgot to mention, I got the 190g cut down this morning, I now have acrylic chips in places that really shouldn't have chips in them. Acrylic makes more mess than Mahogany ..
