The 210 build begins

SWEET

This is becoming a most useful thread indeed. Great to hear from others on this matter. I will be utilizing anything remotely important in my design as well, so most appreciative.
Ron, Dave was explaining how/why he would build a display stand for a 210 last night, yes this thread has spawned several conversations down here.
Between the phone and dinner he didn't finish but if it comes up again I'll try to take notes.
Easy killer.....I wasn't bashing in any way Just saying that they design/build and sell tanks for a living and have a great rep and their stands hold the weight for the long run. Knock on wood, I have never seen a wood stand from allglass/aqueon or oceanic fail that press wood crap is another story.
Oh I know that. :)

Oh yeah, Phil he said to tell you your stand is most definitely just a little overbuilt :D

All we have to do is put the hinges on and does anyone know a good stain shop around charleston i think i want to get this done at a shop i dont want to do it

Looks good, you must not have any small children in the house
I still hope you put support in the back of that.

Ron you need to get out more ;)

I think it looks great! I really like how he did the corners. I would definitely have a canopy built for the top if it were me.

Nope no children, I think this is more than just a stand, Thrice has tried to distance himself from the usual aquarium stand designs by building a piece of furniture really. What I like about it is based on artistic design and it's functional too. That means more to me as an artist so I respect it a bit more I guess. As for previous safety issues of "raking etc." I had my designer look at this thread and he noted that this stand is built just right to prevent any such problems. The build method is non-conventional but it is sound according to him. Phil your stand is built beyond just right, he said he had no idea how much your stand could support but it was likely it could hold several tons with ease.

As for those corners, I suppose a kid could run into it and get an ouchie but I'm pretty sure he would'nt do it again. Besides who knows where that thing is going? It looks exquisite, like the kind of piece you would see in an office, there may be no children present there at all.
BTW my stand is being designed FAAARRRR out of the box and it has a sharper corner than this one, in fact we call it "a suicide rail " That name was given to it after my designer pointed out that it had such sharp corners but we figured that the only way a kid would hurt himself was to run into it head on on purpose, so the name has stuck LOL. Anyway great thread everyone has opinions and ideas but I think aesthetics is just that. What looks good to some will never look good to others nothing wrong with that. everyone is a bit different and that's why we are the way we are instead of a bunch of boring clones. BTW I get out far to much but my imagination takes me to places you just can't get to from here. :) BTW Lets see if we can keep this thread on track.

I am not into all the extra decorations, just makes it harder and more time consuming to clean. However this does tempt me. However since I already have the canopy the tank stand will be the same design. Clean, sleek, with no frills.

Stands looks amazing. Will it be a light or dark color? Will it have a matching canopy?

Bayes or Bates flooring? I'm trying to think of 'THE' guy to get that does hardwood floor refinishing. Might contact him for the stand, although I hear he stays very busy. What about Williams Cabinet Shop? I think they do custom cabinetry. The are located in Spring Hill, they might do staining.

its going to be cherry to match the woodwork in my house..... my architect buddy who is bulding it is moving but is going to do a canopy when he comes back in

I still tink it big pimpin honky!
Seriously I just ordered a custom stand for a tank I'm doing with the big ole skimmer and they have a neat way they do their stands. They use the rhino liner type truck bed liner stuff on the inside bottom and about 4" up the 4 inside sides of the stand for water protection, I wouldn't count on it holding 4" of water or anything but it can't hurt either. Just added protection.
