the 210gallon upgrade thread

That skimmer won't work. Water is going to pour out of it on the left side. ;)

The pump should work out nicely. Someone asked on the previous page how to plumb it. This is my thinking. Run 1.5" plumbing (SpaFlex and/or rigid) as far as you possibly can, then reduce at the very last second before it enters the bulkhead. If you want, increase the plumbing inside the overflow back to 1" right after the bulkhead and then reduce it again at the top where the locline probably is.

By keeping the plumbing large and avoiding as many elbows as possible, you'll get the most flow out of the pump. Try the bulkheads will be a bottleneck.

The other option would be like another poster suggested, in making all the plumbing be drains and having two return come up the back of the tank and over the top lip. If that is the case, again keep the plumbing 1.5 until you have to bring it down to 1" or 3/4".

And hopefully your sump will be able to handle that much flow.

The Tunze rocks, if placed on the sand, need to have the pump's smooth area (of the grill) facing down to avoid drawing sand into the impellar area.

lol but it will when its the right way. as for the plumbing still not sure about it yet. for the rock ill be sure to keep that in mind

today I picked up 103 lbs of cured live rock to add to the preexisting rock from 125g. Tank to arrive on monday.Stored the lr in a 55gal barrel of salt water with a power head and pt skimmer

Just a quick weigh in on the tunze rocks in case you have never used them... they are great. I have 2 in my 120 with 6101's in them and they were covered in coraline algea in no time. I even stuck some acro plugs on them and after 6 months you could not tell the difference between deco rock and live rock. Great product, you'll like them a lot.

btw... I know the deco rocks are fairly large so I just snapped off the back ends, really help when I stuck them in my rockwork. Might be a good idea to cure them with the live rock to start getting some coraline algea on them.

Enjoy the build.. its coming along great.

Great idea about starting to cure them.I'M going to put them in right now. One question did you leave the rocks with nothing on top so if needed you can get the power heads out? Please let me know and thanks for the the tip about curing.

I allowed corals to grow on the deco rock. The tunzes can be removed without taking the rocks out of the water, and yes I did place them so that I could lift up the deco rock without to much work for maintenance.

After 1 week (still needed to tweak the final angle of the rocks after this picture)

Sorry I know its a dark picture... I'm not at home to take a updated picture but you get the idea.

awesome tank thanks for the photos. looks great!!! My mind set was to put them near the bottom to prevent dead spaces with no flow. What was I thinking. Love were you put them. Again thanks for the ideas looks great.
