Ok i've been in this hobby now for over 2 years and am getting out of it or looking to downsize but can someone please explain to me the rational of this rule. Your saying that essentially in order to get more involved in the hobbie I.e. selling and trading and engaging in the hobby more your suppose to contribute to the hobby by creating 50 posts well if your new to the hobbie you have nothing to contribute yet because you won't know anything, or if your someone like me that has been doing it for a while but I still don't know a whole lot how am i suppose to contribute to any actual conversations If i don't have wisdom about the topic. Or lets use this example your essentially saying that I can't post anything for sale because of this rule so you are robbing this forums members of a good deal for sake of a rule so you'd rather the goods go to non users of this form instead of benefiting the members of this form because of a rule. Why would you not want even someone with 1 post that just signed up to the form to be able to offer cheap goods and livestock to the people that use this form... that to me is what adds to the value of being a member of reef central.

Why not just make some beneficial posts to the forum and just comply??

50 posts really is not that hard....

just start a thread about your tank ask questions take pics you only need 25 more its easy and posting threads like this really wont get ya very far

ok thank you gregbot that is the only thing that makes sense that I didn't see before is the spam thing good call ... it's just a good debate

Greg, that's a good point. I've always wondered the same thing about this rule as Reef natzi. I'm glad the rule doesnt prohibit purchasing.

You can't post things for sale here yet but I can tell you a lot of the reefers here on RC also watch craigslist so don't forget that you can post stuff for sale there for free.

This board is a huge audience, and there is no question that we all buy "fish stuff". We're a perfect target for someone that wants to scam people, then disappear and return again under a new name to do it again. This rule forces people to mingle in the community, and let people get to know them before they can sell here. It's more of an investment than most scammers want to make. There are other benefits to it as well, the board is here to share information about the hobby, not be a flea market. This rule encourages you to ask/answer questions. That provides information for others as well as yourself, and THAT'S what we're here for.
There are other places on the 'Net that you can join, and swap or sell stuff today. We're here for the hobby, selling is a perk for the people that contribute to the mission of the board.
Can you imagine what it takes to keep this board from turning into one giant commercial? Let's just say that this community won't feel a loss from the inability to purchase your used stuff.
Let me be clear, we have a great community here, 200,000 people all asked to follow the same rules. Almost all of them comply willingly.
Now and then, we come across someone that feels they should be the exception to the rule, that they are somehow, special.
The rules work because everyone that uses the board is required to follow them. We don't want to make exceptions, because that sets a bad precedent.
One last thing, your signature, "Reef natzi" is inappropriate for this board. If you don't change it, I will. If you replace it with something equally as obnoxious, your posting privileges here will be rescinded.

obviously you never watched seinfeld or the soup natzi episode ... reef natzi... how is it that I can't make my sig whatever I want you as the moderator even feel the need to moderate that? ... anyone that knows me such as Tom aka pacific reefs knows my religious preference is nothing even close to natzi if that's the false assumption your making!

Wow, from the [ua] you agreed to when you joined the board......

1.POSTING: You agree not to post, transmit or link to any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind, including, but not limited to, any material which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, violate the rights of others, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law. This includes posting matter of a political or religious nature. You will be responsible for, and indemnify and hold harmless Reef Central and its representatives against any claim arising from any material that you post or transmit. We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you. POSTING IS A PRIVILEGE. Please note that you are a guest on a privately-owned site. Posting here is a privilege that we hope you will enjoy and respect. All members are to have only one user name and are to post under that name exclusively. The moderators can, and will, remove the posting privileges of any person who does not wish to follow the rules, or in the opinion of the moderators is a detriment to the site.

3. AVATARS, SIGNATURES, TITLES AND PROFILES: "All terms and conditions of this User Agreement apply to these areas as well. An avatar or signature may not contain commercial names, graphics, logos or URLs."

The short answer is yes, I will moderate anything/everything I see here that I believe needs moderation whether I find it myself, or get directed to it.

This is a reef board, plain and simple. Anything in your sig area that is deemed offensive is a bad choice. Why don't we get back to talking about our wonderful hobby...
