the (Aquarium) Adventure continues

So on my lunch break I hop over to AA (My name is Eric and I am a reefaholic) just to browse as we all know how wonderful their pricing is. I see the same mushroom colonies that have been sitting there for the past several months (79.99 and 119.99) and figure, "Hey they're not moving them so maybe they'll sell me a frag at a reasonable price." Now these were nice, but they weren't yumas, nor ricordias, not Vietnamese, just regular old mushrooms with a nice color pattern. I ask how much for 2 polyps; one from each colony. The person "in charge" of the SW section tells me she doesn't know a lot yet and refers me to someone else, who then goes to ask the manager - $60 for the 2 polyps.

Needless to say, after I stopped laughing, I walked out. I guess I should know better by now.

it is definitely a fun place to look around, but don't plan on buying anything. Even if you join the club and get the 40% discount...that $90 flame angel is still a bit high.

and don't buy any talk about where they get their fish (if they try that super special breeder line) i obviously can't say where they get all their fish but i do know of one place for a fact.

but like i said, a very well-done store, even with prices considered i'd say it was worth the trip.

I was in there a week or so ago and the saltwater displays looked terrible and the fish as always are way overpriced do you think they have a clue? why would i spend 300 dollars on a fish i can get elsewhere for 100. on a good note the ciclid tank looked nice

AA's dry goods/hardware is pretty expensive, too. 9 bucks for a blister pack of two 2" limewood airstones LOL. shame on me for buying.

As for livestock. the only place that moves consistent volume at consistently great prices is a place in little neck i think called fishtown usa.. on northern blvd... not exactly LI but not too far of a trek i suppose. Their dry goods and hardware selection sucks. inverts suck too but they move a lot of fish! i was there a few weeks ago, a tank full of medium sized harlequin tuskfish for 60 bucks. i was there a few days later and all sold out.

you should append this to your LI LFS index. i live in brooklyn and made a trip out to that place in ronkokoma i believe off medford ave?? in the strip mall or shopping complex or whatever.. just on a whim and felt like driving... oh boy the tanks were awful looking..

I agree, was never impressed and often have scant inventory, prices vary when you ask.
